Double Oven?

Anyone have feedback on a double oven? Specifically what do you not like about it? I am looking for a new oven and while the double oven seems like a good idea, I'm worried about things like roasts or a big turkey not fitting since its shorter. Any info you can share would be great!

Re: Double Oven?

DW has a GE double-oven. The larger oven is actually bigger than some single ovens (I did lots of measurements and research). We just lose that bottom storage drawer. She loves it. She uses the smaller oven a lot, since she does a lot of tray-type heating (french fries, chicken strips, etc). The smaller oven heats up faster (since it's smaller).
We've had huge turkeys in the lower oven.
We would absolutely get another one in the future. So far, there have been no downsides, and we've had it for about 2 years.

I have a doubble oven and can fit anything in there. I love it and would never be without it again if I had the choice.

But everything fits. Roasting pan etc.

Thanks! What about the low bottom oven? Do you find it annoying that its so low? Or since you're most likely not using both all the time, its no big deal?

I'm so glad this was posted. Our oven is taking 30 minutes to heat up. We are going to have a repairperson look at it but I am going to research ovens in case we need a new one with little notice, since we are hosting thanksgiving!

Double Oven?

I have a double over and LOVE it. I don't use the second one that often, but when I need it, it comes in handy. When we redo our kitchen I am def keeping a double oven.

I have a double oven - Again, it was there when I bought the house.

I love it! When I renovate my kitchen (someday), I am keeping it.

I cook and entertain a lot, and it's great when I host holidays, parties. It's nice to be able to fit more in the oven, and also cook things at different temps. Even for a weeknight meal, if I want to roast meat at one temp and veggies at another, I can do it.

I also like that they are wall ovens (less bending and you can easily see into check the food without bending down the way you do with a range).

My double ovens are both the same size. I host Thanksgiving and I cook a turkey in there with no issue. I can fit in large baking pans, roasts. I did have one giant roasting pan that I got as part of the cookware I got for my wedding that DOESN"T fit, but it's truly huge and it has huge handles with are the problem. The pan itself would fit.

But I'd rather have two large ovens that fit almost everything than one giant oven. I just think it's more practical.

I have double wall ovens and a separate cooktop across from them, so the bottom oven is actually probably still higher than the oven under a combined oven/range.

I think OP is referring to a range with a double oven, not two wall ovens.

Even with a single oven range, you're bending over to get things out of the oven. DW hasn't mentioned it being an issue. It's just something you get used to.

Re: Double Oven?

I have a double oven and love it! 90% of the time I find I use the smaller top oven. The large bottom oven is plenty large for a big turkey. It is a little annoying bending down for it, but really not a big deal. Mine is about 3 years old, and my favorite purchase from when we redid our kitchen. The 2 ovens are great for holidays!

Re: Double Oven?

I host a lot of Holidays so the double wall oven is a life saver! As far as fitting things; I have roasted 25 lb turkeys in mine. They are more roomy than you think!

Unless you are extremely tall; bending down to the bottom oven is not much lower than a single oven. I find no difference.

If you host a lot; I would say a double oven is ideal. If you dont entertain much; then I would think a single oven is best.

Re: Double Oven?

What is the benefit of this, other than cooking 2 different temps at a time? You don't wind up with more space, do you?

With a double-oven range, they basically replace the bottom storage drawer with another oven. The smaller oven is typically above the larger oven, but that's essentially what they do. You do have more capacity, since you have the same size large oven, but an additional smaller oven.
The smaller oven uses less energy since it is smaller, so it's great for heating up smaller things. It puts less heat into the kitchen during the summer, it pre-heats faster, and saves money and time because of those features.
You can also cook two different things at two different temps at the same time. Roast in the big oven, and fries in the smaller oven.

Wall ovens are a different category, since they are built differently, in the wall, at higher heights, usually the same size, etc. But, you need space and setup for those. A double-oven range is a direct replacement for a single oven range.

Re: Double Oven?

I have a double wall oven from Thermador. I love it and it fits everything. I had a very old single wall oven for the past year and a 1/2 (what came with the house when we bought it) and it seems like each oven is just as big as that.

As for the lower oven being too low. It's still higher than the oven in an all-in-one range/oven, which I had at my last house, so I'm used to that.
