Hi ranch and christmas decorating question/ tree
We have a hi ranch for the first time. I'm so confused where to put our Xmas tree. We have a family room downstairs where we spend a lot of time but we have a formal living room connected to our dining room upstairs. Both rooms have fireplaces.
Where would you set up your tree? I am so confused.
ETA: where does Santa leave presents?

Re: Hi ranch and christmas decorating question/ tree
We have a high ranch and do 2 trees. Our high ranch is set up into two loving spaces and our garage is converted so it's not the typical high ranch. We do a bigger tree upstairs in the living room near the front window.

Yes because you can't really see it outside and because we do our celebrations upstairs

Re: Hi ranch and christmas decorating question/ tree
My parents always did their tree in the upstairs living room in front of the picture window. It looks beautiful from the outside.
We're looking at a high ranch right now that we may put an offer on. If we lived in a high ranch we would do 2 trees. One upstairs in front of the window and one downstairs by the fireplace.

My parents had a sectional sofa that also went under the window. They used to move part of the sectional into another room to make space for the tree. If you cant do that, then maybe try to re-arrange the furniture in the room for the tree?

I put 2 trees up (I don't have a high ranch though) and Santa leaves the presents in the family room.

We do the same. I wanted to do it in front of the window but our trees are usually too huge.

Re: Hi ranch and christmas decorating question/ tree
My parents had a high ranch when I was growing up and they always set up the Xmas tree upstairs in the formal living room even though we spent all our time in the den downstairs. That is also where Santa left the gifts.
If I had a high ranch, I'd do two trees.

Re: Hi ranch and christmas decorating question/ tree
I grew up in a High Ranch, when we were little enough to believe in Santa, the tree was downstairs in the den area by the fireplace. Then when we were older the tree went upstairs in the living room/dining room area - like PP mentioned above, the border area between LR and DR across from hallway

Hi ranch and christmas decorating question/ tree
I have a split level and do 2 trees starting this year. One tree is in our dining room near our bay window (13 foot tree) the other will be in the den (7 foot tree)

Re: Hi ranch and christmas decorating question/ tree
I would do 2 trees. We set up one in our den and one in our dining room on the opposite sides of the house.
Hope you guys are doing well in your new home!!!

This is what I used to have, and used to put the other half off the sectional downstairs. Now we just have 2 chairs in front of the window, and will move those downstairs when I put the tree up. We put a smaller tree downstairs by the fireplace, as that is where Santa leaves the gifts. I have a split.

Re: Hi ranch and christmas decorating question/ tree
We have a raised ranch and ours goes upstairs. We have 15ft ceilings so we're able to have a nice 12 ft tree.

Re: Hi ranch and christmas decorating question/ tree
I have a split, not a hi ranch, but I always put it in my formal living room (in the front window). I do smaller decorations in my den (the fireplace is in my den). But I have a free standing stocking holder/stand thing that I hang the stockings on by the tree in the living room. Santa leaves presents under the tree.

Re: Hi ranch and christmas decorating question/ tree
We have a high ranch and have always put the tree upstairs in the living room. It usually goes in the corner, because the couch is in front of the window. do you don't even see it from outside usually.
We recently re-did our lower level and now we are thinking of putting the tree down there. It's not your typical high ranch and the lower half if half underground, so you won't see the tree in the window anyway.
The reason we also love the tree upstairs in the living room is because when we have company over on Christmas, and we are cooking and eating, it's nice to see it all set up in the LR.

Re: Hi ranch and christmas decorating question/ tree
I grew up in a hi-ranch and although we always watched TV and played downstairs, our tree was always upstairs in the LR (formal LR). It was the only time of the year we were allowed to play in there.

Re: Hi ranch and christmas decorating question/ tree
I don't have a hi ranch but I would totally do two trees! If one is going to be the "big" tree, I'd do that upstairs and do the smaller one downstairs. I really want to have two trees in our house (one in the LR, one in the great room) but DH is totally against it.

Hi ranch and christmas decorating question/ tree
I grew up in a hi-ranch and we always put the tree in the LR in front of the big window. My parents would move the couch to the side where the railing is for the steps. It's still where they put the tree and where Santa leaves his gifts.
