Pediatrician Office
Maybe this is common but I am so annoyed with my pediatrician's office.
I called to make an appointment for my daughter because she has a small rash under her arm. I can't get her there today so I asked if I could make the appointment for tomorrow. They told me I would have to call back tomorrow to make that appointment.
Is that normal?
I have had other issues with them in the past in regards to scheduling an appointment to get her flu shot.
I am seriously considering switching offices because I am annoyed with them but if this is common practice at all places then I guess I have nothing to complain about.

Re: Pediatrician Office
My pediatrician's office does the same thing. They won't book a sick visit until the same day. Sometimes I'll call in the morning and won't get an appt until like 5pm.

Pediatrician Office
That sounds weird... I've never worked in a ped's office, but I would never tell a patient (or guardian) to call back tomorrow to make an appointment for that day when it could definitely be made at that moment. Maybe it's different for ped's because you have so many more "emergency" office visits for sick kids, but it seems weird to me.

Re: Pediatrician Office
I've never had an issue with getting my DS in for an appointment. Even if I call with a question or unsure of something they say do you want to come in just to get him checked out by the doctor. My Ped is in a practice by herself and she will always fit you in even if she has to double book the appointments.

They could have booked me for an appointment today but I can't get there today and my DD isn't complaining so that is why I wanted to book it for tomorrow.

Re: Pediatrician Office
Do you go to Smithtown Pediatrics? We used to go there years ago, and I got into with them about that policy. My son wasn't sick, just was having an issue with a spot on his skin, and they refused to make a future appointment.

O I see. I meant to say I don't understand why you can't make an appointment today for tomorrow.

Don't go there but that is essentially my problem. I just want to get this checked out but can't get there today.

I had the same issue with them. My son was sent by them to the ER and before leaving the hospital the dr told me that we needed to follow up with the pediatrician the next day. So when I got home, I called to make an appt for the next morning and then wouldn't do it. One of the many reasons I switched practices.

Re: Pediatrician Office
call back tomorrow? I would be annoyed. I have called to make next day appts for my kids who were under the weather and they have never given me a problem.

Yep - this and a bunch of other reasons is why we left Branch Pediatrics, in Smithtown.
I went to a one-doc practice where the doc and small amount of staff actually KNOW my son's name! It's wonderful. I have never looked back :)

Re: Pediatrician Office
My practice only takes advance appointments for well visits and sometimes the fly shot. Sick visits and rechecks are always scheduled day of. I call at 7 and I can get my choice of times.
Is it mds4kids?

Re: Pediatrician Office
Called my ped's office today for a Saturday appointment. Was told the same thing! I'm inclined to just get there when they open in the morning without an appointment. What a ridiculous policy!

Well, the hold day-of appts for sick appts and emergencies. If you're calling 2 or 3 days in advance, they probably assume that it's not a real sick visit. I can understand that.
However, if I called my ped for an appt they next day, they'd accommodate me, especially if I was calling later in the evening.
