Which hospitals are not giving out Pacifiers?

I believe all of them do not give them out... I know for certain Winthrop does not

North Shore gave my son one. But it mysteriously disappeared later on before I could take it home lol.

St Charles did. And I'm pretty sure stony brook does.

The crazy thing is they have them in the nurseries but won't give them out.

My DD was in the NICU at LIJ and they gave her one (to help her suck). In the well baby nursery they won't give them out. I'm delivering at North Shore Manhasset this time and I know they don't give them out.

Re: What did you/are you bringing to the hospital for baby?

I'm delivering in the winter (hopefully in the next week!!!) and just wanted to add aside from a take home outfit, receiving blankets since it's pretty darn cold out there (to put on baby when we leave the hospital).

DD was given one at stony brook but that was in the nicu. Not sure if they would give it otherwise.

Also wanted to add, they would not give me lanolin in stony brook. They said it's recently been found to lead to clogged ducts so they recommended just using a little milk. I was fine with that but if you want something else you should bring it.

Outfit to bring baby home in
Blanket (to bring baby home in and take pics with)
Mittens
Nail file (their nails are often really long when born)
Pacifier (if you plan to use one)

Re: What did you/are you bringing to the hospital for baby?

I brought the boppy and it was great because I didn't always want him in that plastic bassinet they provide for you. There were times I wanted to sit on the bed - upright, and listen to music or talk to loved ones who were visiting and if someone wasn't always holding him and I didn't want to always hold him - I could cradle him in the boppy, in front of me, facing me, and he would sleep swaddled propped up on the boppy. It was just nice to have it. It was also nice to have it when I would feed him and hold him as it helped prop up my arms. I was so happy I brought that. I used it daily.

I also brought newborn binks because they are now not giving them out like they used to because they are so "pro breast". I fed him formula from day one so I made sure to bring some newborn binks.

Other than that, I did bring new socks from home because I wanted nice socks on his feet. I did also bring those cloth hand covers or "mitts" because he would scratch his face from day one so he needed those from word go.

I did bring a lovey from home so he could get used to the smell of the house. I was in the hospital with him for four days because of the cesarean so I felt these things were helpful. I also brought a few of his pretty blankets he had gotten as gifts so he could be wrapped up in something other than the generic hospital blanket.

That was about it Chat Icon They were a few important items that ended up being really helpful and convenient but they didn't take up a lot of room and they weren't a PITA to bring. HTH!

St. Catherine's when I was there with Julian in 9/2013 -- I asked for one and the nurse said she was doing me a HUGE favor and would try and go find one. It took forever and she was able to dig ONE random bink up. Then, she was like DON'T LOSE IT - and DON'T TELL ANYONE I GAVE IT TO YOU.

I was like, really?! Chat Icon

But I had brought a few of my own - THANK GOD - so once that happened I just stuck with my own and didn't ask because it was obviously ILLEGAL Chat Icon

someone I know just gave birth at SB and she basically told me the same thing. no more pacifiers out right, you have to butter up a nurse and maybe they'll give you one.

The weekend I delivered my son in 2013 was their last weekend giving them out. So they haven't since January 2013

LOL
Once again I cannot believe this is about anything but the Benjamins.
Too cheap to supply formula, too cheap to supply pacifiers. Too cheap to staff a nursery at night so keep the baby with you. All under the guise of 'better for the baby'.
More like better for their budget.
meanwhile the bill for your stay there could bankrupt a person.
Ridiculous.

Reminds me of this article I recently read. While I'm all for rooming in, DS never left my sight while I was in the hospital. Second time around DH will be home with DS, so he has has some sense of normality. I don't want to be shamed for asking to send my NB to the nursery!

So basically I am going to be considered a bad mom bc I'm going to formula feed, use a pacifier and ask to sleep for a few hours Chat Icon I agree that it's all about saving money. Their beliefs shouldn't be forced on moms that don't agree.

I have a 3 yr old dd and I think she turned out well too. She is a healthy, happy, well adjusted toddler. I just packed a pacifier in my bag

Take home outfit.
maybe binky. Winthrop wouldn't give my last baby one. I wondered if it was because of breast feeding . The one they use to give is very hard and my kid preferred the soft mam brand.

They provide all the ointment, diapers etc while there. At the end they tell you to clear out thr bassinet except for their clothes and blankets.
