Recently Delivered at Good Sam

Has anyone recently delivered at Good Sam and have any information about the new private suites?

I can't find anything online about it.

Re: Recently Delivered at Good Sam

I don't know anyone who delivered there yet using the new unit however I did call and speak to someone regarding it and I spoke to my OB about it and basically if you want a room on that unit it is self pay. My OB says its about $150-180 per night. The baby is allowed to stay with you 24-7, DH is allowed to stay overnight and there are about 9 rooms, 7 of them being private. I heard its gorgeous! Also, you cannot book ahead it's basically first come, first serve but remember its self pay so I'm sure this would cut the list of people that want it. I too am delivering at Good Sam and definitely want one of those new rooms!

My doctor basically said the same thing except she said it's $280/night. I don't care what it is. If I can get one, I want it. Considering I will have just pushed a baby through my lady parts, I think I have earned it. I hope they still have a nursery though. I don't want DC2 24/7. No offense DC2, but mama needs a little calm before the storm.

My sister is an rn in nicu there. I asked her this morning about it and she said its gorgeous. Its around 200 a night and the baby has to stay with you. There is no nursery for baby to go back to but you can have anyone you want staying there to help. Hth

Yep! Was just going to say this. A friend recently delivered at Good Sam and was fortunate enough to get one of the private suites, however the baby does have to room with you 24/7.

Re: Recently Delivered at Good Sam

They are open! they opened about 2 weeks ago, I am due 5/11/15 & going for a tour Monday 4/20- but my aunt is a L& D nurse there & said they are open, but not a lot of people are using them, so the nurses who are assigned to them are providing more like 1 on 1 care to the patients who go in there.

I was just gonna say the same exact thing!! I was actually just there this morning! I had some spotting this morning at 25 weeks so my Ob had me go to good Sam to get checked out. Everything was perfect just a tiny clot by my uterus. The girl next to me asked the nurse and all of the new rooms were full and tomorrow they would have an opening so she was prob gonna get one tomorrow but yes the baby is with you 24/7 you don't get a nursery!

Recently Delivered at Good Sam

Thanks ladies! Last time I delivered there I only had a roommate the first night.

I think I am going to take my chances on a non-private room because I would like to send the baby to the nursery the first and second night so I can make sure I am coherent.

Re: Recently Delivered at Good Sam

Eh Id rather have the nursery. I don't like the idea of sleeping when ppl can come in and out all night and someone can kidnap your baby. And I'm not paying $200/night for 3 nights b/c well, I'm poor. Chat Icon I'm likely delivering at Southside anyway although I'm not a fan of sharing a room (more the bathroom).

Last night, when I went to my OB, he told me that the rooming in is encouraged but not mandatory. He said that's a rumor. I hope he's right. He said the nursery is on the 5th floor while these rooms are on the 4th but they will take the baby. I find this whole "rooming in" movement to be inconsiderate. The whole point of the hospitalization is to recover. You need rest to recover. Otherwise, just send me home to the regular rat race.

I just asked the nurses at good sam today and they say you can't use the nursery, it's not an option and the baby's with you all the time! I think it's totally inconsiderate and unfair!!

Oh for God's sake! Where is the dislike emoticon when you need it?! WTF. If it wasn't for the bathroom situation, I would probably forego the private room just for that reason. Did they say what you are supposed to do when you want to take a shower or use the bathroom? Do they expect you to bring a newborn into a hospital bathroom with you? Ga-ross!!! Chat Icon

Re: Recently Delivered at Good Sam

I had my ds on march 26th there. Didn't get a private room but I heard they are beautiful. I was there for 3 nights and didn't have a roommate at all. The second night I was about to but I had to get transferred to a bed by the window. It is so hot on the 5th floor keep that in mind when packing your bag. I packed loose sweats and I was literally dripping sweat.
