Here's an idea, don't break the f*cking law and you wont get tossed head first into a police van.
Look at what a law abiding citizen sweet Freddie was. FOH.
March 20, 2015: Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance March 13, 2015: Malicious destruction of property, second-degree assault January 20, 2015: Fourth-degree burglary, trespassing January 14, 2015: Possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute December 31, 2014: Possession of narcotics with intent to distribute December 14, 2014: Possession of a controlled dangerous substance August 31, 2014: Illegal gambling, trespassing January 25, 2014: Possession of marijuana September 28, 2013: Distribution of narcotics, unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance, second-degree assault, second-degree escape April 13, 2012: Possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance, violation of probation July 16, 2008: Possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession with intent to distribute March 28, 2008: Unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance March 14, 2008: Possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to manufacture and distribute February 11, 2008: Unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a controlled dangerous substance August 29, 2007: Possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, violation of probation August 28, 2007: Possession of marijuana August 23, 2007: False statement to a peace officer, unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance July 16, 2007: Possession of a controlled dangerous substance with intent to distribute, unlawful possession of a controlled dangerous substance (2 counts)
For once ( ), I actually agree with you.
Law abiding citizens don't have issues with cops. Ever.
while I get the point of this just wondering do you still feel the same way about the cop in SC that shot a running suspect multiple times in the back and than try to plant evidence on him to make it justify?
while I get law abiding citizens never have a problem with cops (which I don't know if this statement can really be 100% accurate) that makes it right for cops to do what they want to anyone who isn't following the law?
cause that's how *I* take it when people make this statement. I also feel that when people are screaming police brutality it really isn't and I agree with what the cop does. just not all the time
That cop shooting that man in the back while running and planting evidence was wrong. I don't think anyone will defend him. I don't care what the person running was doing before hand. The cop was wrong. BUT I have to ask, why run? Could that have been avoided? Maybe. But In that particular situation, from what we know, that was a dirty cop.
Yes, there are dirty cops. Does that make all cops dirty? No. Same situation goes for civilians. Just because john gotti was Italian, doesn't mean all Italians are mob. Just because the rioters are black, doesn't mean all black people are bad. That's what nobody seems to see. You can't judge people based on what others in their race, job, etc. do. This is what bothers me the most. It's ok to judge all police based on some who are bad. the black community constantly speaks about racism and profiling - but isn't this he same thing? Discrimination against all leader enforcement ?
Also I have to touch on the fact that in every single instance recently the person arrested resisted. STOP RESISTING. OK, you are being profiled and it's not right. I get it. But if you know this is happening all around, when stopped by police, do what they ask. Go to a lawyer later to state your case. Plan a protest after to fight for yourself. Because that way, you are alive to do so. Why this is not obvious is mind boggling. Obey the law. It's simple. Obey the damn law. Don't run. Don't resist. Yes sir, yes mam. And be on your way. Wtf is this impossible to get.
You will never get justice this way. You will never be respected this way. And the worst part of it all is that a lot of the rioters were tennagers!! This is our future. These teens are the youth of today. With no respect for anyone, especially themselves.
Very sad

Look, I come from a LONG LONG line of FDNY and NYPD - I still have a TON of family who serve, every day. I fear for them, I do. They are good people, who would never kill a man bc of their race. They are not one of the bad apples, but they are being judged as a whole by the actions of some.
It is kind of the same, the black men killed, the ones unjustly at the hands of officers, were killed by bad apples. Now they are rioting. Again, its not the way, but they are angry bc people in their communities are killed, bc they have been victims, even if on a smaller scale at the hands of the police. Are they not judged as a whole now bc of some bad apples?
NO ONE deserves to die unless they are threatened, NO ONE, on either side. But some in the black communities have formed an impression of law enforcement as a whole bc of bad apples, but some of these same officers have done the same and that is why this keeps happening.
We can discuss the minutia until we all go to bed tonight but Grill is right, racism exists (although I do not agree we are all inherently racist). I think, and pardon me Grill, but if she expressed her point without calling us racist and instead try to drive home the point that there IS white privilege and that blacks ARE targeted (not that we are all racist) we couldve seen the bigger message.
There a GOOD people in these communities who are currnently at their churches, with their leaders, trying to find a better way, but just as we are all human, we do not all react the same. Rioting is NOT OK, hurting the police and firemen is NOT OK but neither is killing suspects when they pose no immediate threat.
People are angry and heated on BOTH sides and I can see that and I understand BOTH sides. What you can take from Grills posts, is that there IS white privilege, which is NOT the same as racism and despite the deplorable actions of some, is that TRY, just TRY to put yourselves in their shoes. I can understand, while still thinking its COMPLETELY wrong and counter productive, why the rioting happens. They feel like they have NO VOICE.
I pray for everyone involved.
Perfectly stated.

Agree.
I hate when people persecute the victim by bringing up their past. I see it all the time on the crime shows I watch.
My Dhs family lives there and he told his aunt stay in the house. Baltimore is legit bad, so this happening does not surprise me.

I agree with you and i also believe in every profession, race, etc there are good people and bad people. I also don't understand why people who feel they are being harassed by cops just don't resist and get a lawyer but it happens and cops need to deal with it the correct way (whatever that maybe, i am not saying physical force isn't necessary, i am not saying all cops don't know how to handle it etc)
the problem *I* see is that everyone is so quick to defend the cop even if what they did was wrong and use the excuse they shouldn't have been breaking the law if they weren't there would be no issue.

I am a WHITE law-abiding citizens and had issues with two WHITE cops when I was 16. They harassed me for absolutely no reason. So I don't agree that law-abiding citizens NEVER have issues with cops.

Re: Anyone watching the Baltimore riots?
1. White privilege exists in this country. Denying that is like denying that the ocean is full of water. Benefitting from this privilege does NOT make you an automatic racist – but pretending it doesn’t exist might mean that you have some racist tendencies. 2. There are TOO MANY instances showing the abuse or murder of black men by white police officers in this country. ONE is too many. ESPECIALLY since Ferguson the Police have been under a veritable MICROSCOPE but it STILL happens? How? Why? 3. Freddy Gray’s rap sheet has ZERO to do with his death. I don’t care if they caught him in the act of murdering someone – the police are NOT the judge, jury and executioners. 4. UNFORTUNATELY Hofstra – you are WRONG – law abiding citizens DO have something to fear. Do you know how sad it is that my friends have to teach their children “Hands Up Don’t Shoot?” Can you imagine having to teach your son that if a police officer questions you, the SAFEST course of action is to lay face down or in a supine position with your hands interlocked or outstretched to show that you are not a threat? NOT because you have a bad kid.. but because his skin color is black. IT HAPPENS EVERY DAY. A lot of white people are blind to it – willfully or not – because it doesn’t happen to them, they don’t see it and therefore it must be exaggerated.
And yet the riots in Baltimore are STILL WRONG! THEY DO NOT represent the family of Freddy Gray, they DO NOT represent a desire for fairness and equality. It is NOT an outpouring of rage against injustice. It is – quite simply – a group of people and I would guarantee that a good portion of them can’t give any kind of cohesive response when asked what GOOD the riots are doing. And then there are others who are simply taking advantage of the situation – stealing food, destroying property and getting giddy at the thought of being ‘in control’ for any length of time. The people who genuinely care about these issues are mortified by these riots. They are NOT making excuses or trying to justify the injuries, loss of income, damage to property and the other non-quantifiable damages that are happening as a direct result of these actions.
And THIS:

This is SO disgusting. To see people acting like this just makes me sick to my stomach. NONE of these rioters give a cr@p about that boy's death, his death is simply an EXCUSE to run through the streets like a bunch of wild animals destroying everything in their path. What they are doing is 100% self serving and does NOTHING to make things better or prove a point.
I just can't believe what I am seeing every time I see video footage. This needs to be shut down.........gas them all and arrest them. This should NOT be allowed to continue. It's only a matter of time before people get hurt or killed!! And for what??!! So that these idiots can destroy public property and get a free bag or Oreos??!!! It's appalling to me how quickly humans can devolve into complete trash. ALL of these rioters should be ashamed of themselves. Ignorant fools. Rioting is NOT how you bring about change. Poor Baltimore, what a mess.

I agree. If someone has a record, IMO, it does not make them less worthy to live. I really can't make any final conclusions until a report comes out with details, but this is where I'm at.

What these people are doing is simply giving the very people they are trying to reach more reason to call them "animals" and more reason to keep the hate alive. In the end they are only hurting themselves. This makes me so sad for humanity.

I disagree ONLY in that if these officers have arrested him before, if they "called him in" and saw he was arrested a lot it would make them more on edge when arresting him. They might perceive ANYTHING as a threat and act accordingly to what THEY think "accordingly" is.
So listing his rap sheet? It only shows that he has been arrested a lot and the cops MIGHT know him and be more inclined to be more physical with someone who has been arrested a lot.
Just thinking out load. I am NOT justifying, in ANY way what happened. Just thinking its an interesting point that it COULD have influenced the officers.

I do think that every white person who didn't grow up as a minority among other cultures or who lived in a predominantly white home is or was once a racist.
You really have to be kidding. People with this mindset are a major part of the reason why we can't even have an honest dialog about race in this country. How dare you.

Re: Anyone watching the Baltimore riots?
I'm just going to rant. I got a few pages into this thread and I feel like my freaking head is going to explode.
Like everyone else, I have to have my say on this. I'm so disgusted over the fact that people behave like this. This is, under no circumstance, a protest. They are rioting and rioters need to be put down and order restored to Baltimore, it's just that simple. I think back to the scenes of people in Japan literally standing and waiting in lines for relief after the tsunami, yet this is how people behave here. When given the opportunity, people (American people) choose to degrade themselves and loot, harass, terrify, and vandalize THEIR OWN COMMUNITY. This happens over and over again in the United States. There are some serious and deep seeded issues in this country. Is institutionalized poverty to blame? It sure doesn't help. However, at what do people actually rationalize the actions of these angry mobs? Seeing people actually defend this is insane. Yes, they are animals. (and no, not "hood rats"- I can't believe someone actually let THAT out of their head)
What's being lost in all of this is the fact that these riots are taking away from the serious issues that a man was killed. I don't care what his previous charges were, he died and it's pretty clear that the police did NOT do the right thing. Does that mean that all police officers are pieces of garbage? ABSOLUTELY NOT.
Am I a racist white woman who can't look beyond her provide? No. But I do expect people to act civilized and would rather they follow the example of people like MLK and Gandhi and actually use positive means to express their dissatisfaction with the system.
What the hell kind of world are we sending our children into.

OMG I literally started crying when I watched this. When is the human RACE going to get a clue?? How can we as one of the most progressive nations in the world act like this, and how can anyone justify these actions?? I am sick over this and the state of our broken country. Something is wrong here, and it is not going to take a riot, a lawsuit, or bashing of cops to fix it. As I said before, it will take dialogue, education, and empathy.
