Home Doppler
Hi girls! Anyone know when you can start using a home doppler to find the hb? I'm on the fence about buying one- I feel like it's good peace of mind but at the same time if I can't find the hb I'll lose my mind.
Thank you as always

my dr advises against it because you could easily mistake the heartbeat of the placenta (or uterus? I forget which one) for the baby's heartbeat.

I used one both pregnancies first trimester and beginning of second before I felt movement for reassurance. Drs advise against it bc if you can't find the HB you panic. I always did and quickly. I felt it provided more reassurance than stress. I would start around 10 weeks.

I started using it around 18 weeks I think - there were some days it took me a little longer to find the HB but almost always found it instantly. I thought it was great for peace of mind.

This is really helpful, thank you all. I am 10 weeks today so if I order it I should be able to use it when it arrives.
Any recs on a particular brand that is best?

This. And also, if you can't find the hb, you'll panic. Better to just wait for your next appt. And soon enough, you'll feel the baby anyway and that will be all the reassurance you'll need.

I think the brand I had was Angel Sounds and it was like $20 and worked great. My dr had no problem with it - he said that once you start feeling movement not to use it as a diagnostic tool, and he also said he sometimes have problems finding the heartbeat so don't stress if I don't find it. There were times it took a while to find but after a few days I became a pro at telling it apart from other sounds, and if I had a hard time finding it I waited until I had a full bladder and always found it easily.

I had one and it was very reassuring for my first pregnancy..I would freak myself out all the time and once I heard her heartbeat I was ok.

Re: Home Doppler
I rented a hospital-grade one for my first pregnancy and was able to hear the hb at 10.5 weeks.
This time, I bought a Sonoline B and had trouble hearing the hb at 14 weeks. Turned out I had an anterior placenta (placenta is in front of the baby, not behind, so it muffles the sound). By 16 weeks I could hear it pretty easily.
It was great peace of mind for me before I could feel the baby move (which also happened late b/c of the placenta), especially because I've had several miscarriages.

Re: Home Doppler
I got one and I love it. I started trying to hear the hb at 7 weeks but couldn't find it until 8W 3D. Ever since then I can find it very easily. I watched youtube videos of how to find it and at first all I heard was my own heart beat but when I found the baby's I knew it bc it is so fast. Baby sits pretty low so I put the wand right near my pubic bone in the center and just move a tiny bit right or tiny bit left.
