Acupuncture

Hi All -

I'm starting my 2nd round of IVF in July and am seriously considering Acupuncture, the only issue is, I'm really nervous about it. It's something to do with the needles that makes me scared. Can anyone recommend someone that they have used that maybe has eased your worries about it or tell me anything about the process to make me less nervous!

TIA!

I've been getting acupuncture for months. most of the time you don't even feel the needles. Depending on where you are in your cycle is where they are put. In the beginning of your cycle they are usually in your legs and feet ( only a few like 4) and a few in your stomach. later in your cycle they put them in your head and ear. The ears hurt a little because of the cartilage. I know alot of people use someone in RVC . I forgot his name. That is too out of the way for me, I go to Think Acupuncture in Huntington, its closer to my job. If you have anymore questions about the actual process you can pm me.

I used LI holistic in Babylon, but they also have a location in Lake Success. They were all very kind. The needles didn't really hurt. Sometimes when they took the ones in my ankles and wrists out it pinched for a second but not too bad.
It didn't help me to become pregnant, but It did help regulate my period. It was every 29 days when I went. They usually say to try it for 3 full cycles.

Good luck

When I was very active here a couple of years ago everyone raved about a guy named Andy. I think he was from RVC. Might be the same person.

Andy KaplanRVC. He seriously has been my life saver physically and mentally. I've been doing acupuncture for over 2 years now. I found him on this site because everyone seems to use him. His wife also is an acupuncturist.
Even on my IVF break. You really don't feel the needles at all. And it feels so good to relax, lay down and listens to calming music. Trust me I am not a fan of needles but with IVF i had to get over that quickly.
You won't regret it.

I can't recommend an acupuncturist because I'm in CT but I can try to ease your worries. I have done it 3 or 4 times now to help with lowering my TSH and now for IUI. It isn't bad at all. Some don't hurt a bit and others pinch a little. The idea of it was sort of creepy but once they are in and you are relaxing, it's no big deal. My acupuncturist has put them all over from my toes to my scalp and I don't find the pain is consistent. Today the one in the back of my hand between thumb and index finger hurt the most but last time one in my foot did. But, like I said, the pain is temporary. If you get anything waxed, it is so much less pain than that. I definitely recommend it. It brought my TSH down quickly and I think it has had a positive effect on my cycle (which I hope affects my fertility) plus it is good stress management. Good luck!

Andy Kaplan is the best!!! Chat Icon He is so compassionate and really wants you to succeed. He has come in on his day off to give me a treatment right after my retrieval. He used to work with Dr. Braverman a long time ago. He knew about some infertility doctors at North Shore as well. Most recently, he worked with Dr. Palter. He also will text you periodically to see how you are doing. He is very gentle with the needles. Trst me, I hated needles and was very scared of them. With IVF, I got very used to needles. The needles in the side of my foot hurt a little. Those needles in the foot are really important for infertility. A main needle goes in at the top of the head. Another one goes between the eyebrows. Other needles go around the belly button in a circle shape. Those did not hurt. Some needles go on the sides of the wrists. That only hurt a little. Acupuncture feels really good after the first couple of times. Best of luck with everything. Andy is well worth it.

Andy Kaplan. Amazing. He will make you feel at ease and explain everything to you. I suggest calling him like now to get an appt and start sooner than later.

It really doesn't hurt. Nothing compared to the IVF shots! I have been using James Vitale in Melville on Route 110 since October and he is absolutely fabulous! I highly recommend him!
