basement flooding
Something in our basement broke (not sure if its the sub-pump or our hot water heater)...but the leak spread to the carpet. any tricks to get rid of the mildew/musty smell?? We dry-vacuumed it so it is now dry (almost), have the windows open, a fan blowing and a dehumidifier one...but is there anything else we can do? I am debating on tearing up that part of the carpet (its a small hallway that got wet), cleaning the floor and just putting down a small rug instead but wondering if there was any way to save the carpet

you can rent a mold / mildew machine from home depot. not sure how it works

basement flooding
Our basement flooded a few years ago and we were informed by a basement waterproofing company that mold begins to grow within 24 hours and that if we could not get the carpet completely dry we should rip it up. We ripped up an entire basement of brand new carpeting just to be safe.

We rolled the carpet back right away and put blowers and dehumidifier in our basement when we had a flood. We were able to just replace the padding and put the carpet back down after it dried. saved us from having to replace all of it after our basement flooded.
