Late Talker?

My DD is 20 months old and does not have much of a vocabulary. Says more, ha (hi), mye (bye), ni-ni (night night), a few others- also does about 8 animal sounds which I know count as words. I had her evaluated last month and she didn't qualify for speech services. They said if she is still not speaking more at 2, to have her reevaluated. I'm worried I'm wasting time if I don't pay out of pocket for speech. Anyone have a late talker who didn't need speech? TIA

Re: Late Talker?

There is another thread going on right now on this board about this... take a look at those responses. I put my son in a speech group that I pay out of pocket. Not sure where you are located. FM me for details. Id be happy to answer any questions.

Late Talker?

My son is almost 4 in Oct. I can't recall at the time what he was saying, but since he was getting PT I was told he needed speech too. We were in early intervention. I didn't think he needed it, but hey they were offering it. He rec'd for 6 months & discharged.

If EI is not worried yet, wait until 2yrs & see how it goes. Get a picture book & read to your child, I am sure you do already. I feel like that is bassically what our speech person did.

Late Talker?

My son, now 4, was in PT through EI when he was an infant. I had him evaluated twice for speech between 12 months and 20 months. He didn't qualify each time. They told me to wait until he was 2 and ha E him re evaluated if he wasn't improving because then he fell into a different bracket. About 2 weeks before he turned 2 it's like a switch went off and he just started talking up a storm.
