New hire in DOE - paycheck question
As is when will I see one????? I was literally JUST hired and am supposed to start Monday however they're telling me that I will not get paid! I am technically "volunteering" until I am processed.
Um.... what?????
If I start Monday, I expect to get paid for all days I work. I went to Court Street today to do the I-9 thing ( was already fingerprinted through NYSED).
How long does it take to get processed? If they think I am working for free for weeks they're NUTS!!!!!
Any insight?

Congrats! You will get paid for everyday you work - maybe they were talking about taking a few weeks to get on payroll?

Re: New hire in DOE - paycheck question
The asst. principal specifically used the word "volunteer". I'm going to have to call her.
How long does it take to get processed and onto payroll? I'm a single mom and honestly NEED to get paid ASAP. I'll be ok for a couple of weeks, but after that I'm screwed.
Starting to panic

New hire in DOE - paycheck question
It's been so many years since I started but I did start in October and I don't remember waiting for a long time . I would talk you your payroll secretary at your school. I'm sure there will be paperwork on your first day to fill out.

Yes, talk to the payroll secretary, they would know best. I believe it will be a couple if weeks until you get a check. You will be retro payed from the time you were hired.

Re: New hire in DOE - paycheck question
You will get paid for every day you work but you probably won't get an oct 15 check you might have to wait till October 30. When I was hired over the summer my first check wasn't until October 15. They need time to get you in the system

Depends when your paperwork went through. I went down to court street as soon as I accepted my position last fall and they were able to get my stuff through in time for the next pay period. I started on October 13 and I think submitted my paperwork about 3 weeks prior to that. At any rate, you will get paid, it just may take time. Same with your salary steps and/or differential. It may take time but you will get all of the money you are owed retroactively.
