CPSE Reevaluation
My son just started his second year at a special needs preschool. We just received a letter from the district requesting consent to conduct a reevaluation of my son to determine his educational needs and continuing eligibility for special education services. Is this the usual process and are all kids reevaluated around this time?

Re: CPSE Reevaluation
They send out the consents for testing early because it's a big process. In PreK they usually start re-testing them in the winter. His providers and teacher then write up their reports, get them looked over by someone at the school, they make copies ect... Mail them to you and the district then you will have another CPSE meeting to discuss progress and the continued need for services. That can happen anything from January through the spring depending on the district. The recommendations will be for the 2016-2017 school year. You might also have a "premeeting" with the PreK team prior to the official CPSE meeting with the district.

Re: CPSE Reevaluation
He's starting kindergarten next year, right? Everything the pp said. My twins are starting k next year. I haven't received the paperwork for the reevaluation yet, but the school explained to me this would be happening so that a determination could be made for what they need next year. As we all know, kindergarten is a whole new ball game.

CPSE Reevaluation
Thank you both, this was very helpful. I knew that there was going to be a kindergarten evaluation at some point, but I thought maybe this re-eval was something different as it was so early in the current school year, and they never mentioned kindergarten in the letter. It makes sense that they have to start the process early as there is so much involved!
