Basement Flooring
What flooring do you have in your basement and why? We have a dry basement that is partially above grade so realistically never have a water issue, unless it comes from gutters not draining or an overflow with our washer. This is for a family room. Thanks!

Re: Basement Flooring
We have carpet in our family room, and are putting in a laminate fake wood in laundry room, and our office. I didn't want to use tile Bc I figured it would get too cold, and the laminate looks good and doesn't get that cold.
Eta- the laminate is also rated for kitchens/bathrooms, which was another reason we used it since the laundry room is technically a half bath as well.

Basement Flooring
We had carpet throughout the whole finished basement except for a tile path that goes from the door to the garage to the stairs. That is until a pipe broke under my upstairs kitchen sink while we weren't home causing the water to come in from the basement ceiling and ruin the carpet.
We just put down Trafficmaster Allure vinyl flooring to replace it. It looks really nice. Our contractor said it was a smart choice because not only is it very inexpensive, but it's durable as well.
We have a mostly above ground basement and live at the top of a hill so we never thought we'd have to worry about flooding.

Re: Basement Flooring
We have tile in our basement with throw rugs on top so the kids can play on the floor without it being too cold (in the winter).

Basement Flooring
We are putting carpet tiles down there so if for some reason there is water we just have to take up the wet tiles and replace them. This way we do not have to worry about the whole floor getting ruined.

Re: Basement Flooring
We have pretty much eliminated carpet as I worry about it smelling musty...I am pretty much between tile and vinyl plank flooring...we don't want to do the vapor barrier for basements because we don't want to lose the height. I'm afraid of the tile being so cold under our feet, but I'm not sure there will be much difference between that and the vinyl.

My house is still being worked on so I can't tell you if the vinyl is cold in the basement since we haven't been home since they laid it but I do have it in other rooms in my house that are on the main level and it's not as cold as my bathroom tile or hardwood floors.

Re: Basement Flooring
I just finished my basement and did carpet. Just has a warm feeling to it and figured more comfortable for my Son to play down there on.
I do have a section that I did tile right outside the laundry room.

We had carpeting until we had a flood. Then we did vinyl plank flooring that looks like wood. It's durable and easy to clean, but if water issues weren't a concern I prefer carpeting for a family room. Just feels more cozy to me.

Re: Basement Flooring
We just redid our basement and we put in tile. However we were fortunate enough to also add radiant heat since we had to replace the concrete floor. We plan on putting down area rugs as well.
