Yellowstone with Grandparents
My parents love to hike. My kids love nature. None of us have been to Yellowstone. I would like to plan a family trip to Yellowstone in 2016.
What is the best time of year to go? Can you recommend places to stay? Kid activities?

A family member lives 45 minutes from there. I would recommend going between June and September. They can get snow between October and may. You can stay in Yellowstone in a cabin.

My dad's birthday is in June. I will plan to go right after school ends. Thanks for the tip.

Absolutely amazing place!!! I would go back in a heartbeat. I think kids 5y+ would appreciate it, but yes mainly you're there for the outdoors, geysers, animals, nature, hiking. Some families chose to stay in the park at one of the cabins, which adds the convenience of being more in the "center" of things but the park is huge. Went in end of July- ~80F in the afternoon, ~40F at night, so keep that in mind. We rented a house in a small town near the North entrance and split up 5 days into itineraries of what we wanted to see.

Yellowstone is an amazing trip. I would go back again and again...it's an American safari land and just incredible scenery.
You will definitely need to book now if you want to get any accommodations inside the park for next summer.
An alternative is staying in a teepee camp just outside the park - friends of ours did this and loved it.

Best to go in summer. If you can, book a historic hotel in the park. Kid friendly: horse back riding, camping, hiking

Get the Junior Ranger booklets for your kids. They can earn a Jr. Ranger badge if they complete certain activities - sometimes, if you ask, they let adults do it, too, so the grandparents might want to join in for even more of a bonding experience.
