Anyone ever rented car seats with a car rental?
We are going to California for my aunts wedding in a few months. We will need to rent a car and both kids are still in carseats. I would really rather not have to bring our own. I remember hearing somewhere that rental car seats are gross and dirty...is this actually the case? I would think the seats would legally have to be current and clean, but what do I know! Anyone done it before?

They are fine, but I'll admit I am not a germophobe by any stretch of the imagination. My problem is they are expensive (usually $13/day).

Re: Anyone ever rented car seats with a car rental?
I rented one through the car rental agency when we went to Florida It was immaculate. Looked brand new. Nicer and cleaner than my own.
It was wrapped in plastic when we got it

We have. I remember it not being spotless, but it was fine. Definitely not dirty or gross.

I have done it twice...the first time..the seats were clean and wrapped in plastic when I got them. The next time, different car rental, they were stored in a dark shed and you had to dig around for one. I ended up buying booster's for them. Taking the seats home was easy though. They tag them separately and you pick them up in a special area.

I did in Orlando. The seat was spotless and the rental company included all of the manuals with the seat. It was a basic Graco car and was very hard to install correctly-it took me and my DH over 45 minutes.

We do it whenever we use a plane for travel which has been about 4 times now, we have never had any issues. It does take us longer to install since we are not used to the seat, the rental places won't help you for liability reasons. We will be asking the rental company next time we travel what brands they use so we can look up directions before hand because lie the poster above me it has taken 45 minutes and tons of F bombs from my husband on a couple occasions LOL

The one we rented looked brand new. It's expensive. For the week our cost almost as much as the car.

Yes, I have- if you are a AAA member, you get free use of a car seat when you rent from Hertz- saves you about $13 a day.
When we were in Orlando- they literally took one out of the box for us when we rented with them

Anyone ever rented car seats with a car rental?
AAA Member.. I get mine free and never had an issue Been to Cali, NY, NJ, FL and Hawaii. Used Baby Carriers, Convertibles and I guess I'll be getting a booster this go around for FL. Done it in all seasons.
I never, EVER travel with my own car seat. I consider it an unnecessary hassle. I am no a germophobe, so that could be it. I lack the ability to believe my child will get sick from a seat, sincerely.
They always say "if we have one" but I've never had an issue with one being available. I generally only rent from large airports so that could be part of it.
I will say the car seats are generally ALWAYS in better condition than most cars you rent! LOL

Re: Anyone ever rented car seats with a car rental?
no, we just checked our own at the gate because the carseat we bought (cosco scenera) cost less than what they wanted for the seat.

Re: Anyone ever rented car seats with a car rental?
I did once when i went to florida, and i will never do it again. The first seat they gave me was missing one of the latch hooks. They brought us a few others and they were all gross looking and dirty. We used it anyway but I wont rent one again

Re: Anyone ever rented car seats with a car rental?
yes recently through alamo. The car seat was in great condition and probably cleaner than my own. I wiped it down with a lysol wipe just in case. I have heard horror stories so I guess it depends on where you are renting from

Re: Anyone ever rented car seats with a car rental?
How are you getting to the airport? How old are the kids?
The price per day adds up and honestly, just bring your own. My kids (4&5) walked throughout the airport and I brought umbrella strollers for each of them. Put the carseats (high back booster) in the strollers and gate checked both. It was easier. And to keep the kids occupied while we walked, they each had a carry on with wheels to roll so they were helping.
Bring the seat yourself.

Nope. Never will. I've heard bad stories - giving a toddler an infant seat or an infant a booster seat. Plus you don't know it's history. I'm too crazy about car seat safety to ever chance it.

Same for me. I would rather ship a seat to our destination than rent one.

Re: Anyone ever rented car seats with a car rental?
We are actually flying to FL next week and will be renting a car. Honestly the only reason I didnt rent with the rental company is because of how expensive it was! I decided that I would just bring and check since they will check for free. I bought this bag off amazon...
http://www.amazon.com/Childress-Gate-Check-Bag-Seats/dp/B000RRD7UG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1453406831&sr=8-1&keywords=car+seat+check
I didnt realize I could have gotten for free since I am a AAA member. I will have to remember that for next time.
