Living Room Layout Help
So we just finally closed on our house! YAY! 
We're in the process of updating the place- taking down wall paper, new floors, etc. Luckily for us, very little work needs to be done. The one thing that we are having a hard time visualizing is the living room. There used to be a front porch, but there was an extension put onto the house and the front porch is now enclosed and part of the living room. There's still part of the original wall there and it really divides the room even though it's such a little wall. We're not sure if we'll be able to take it down and move any support beams back, at least not without significant cost and trouble.
So how would you set this room up, keeping in mind we want to have the usual sofa, love seat, and TV? To further confuse matters, the rest of the room is not square. There's a corner that comes out because there are stairs off the kitchen that lead to the basement. It's really hard to describe so I have a picture (though only from one angle) and a silly little diagram that I made on paint. lol!

could you slide the couch all the way next to the wall, then put a table on the other side with another couch/love seat.
you can make that little wall with knickknacks or pictures so it doesnt look out of place.
idk. just an idea.
is the living room too long to have the tv on the other side?

That's what we were thinking- the table behind the couch, but I feel like we're just wasting the space then. Plus, we have two giant dogs and I'm afraid they'll see something they like out the window and climb up onto the table.  They're quite rude.
As for the other side- you mean over by the stairs? Yeah, it's kinda far. Plus DH doesn't like the idea of the TV being the first thing you see when you walk into the house, which I get. We had planned on putting a hall tree against that wall facing the entryway.
It's so hard! Every other room is no problem but this one is just so strangely laid out. If it weren't for that little wall, I'd think it would be easy, but I just have no idea what to do with the space.

My guess is it's a support wall since it was originally an exterior wall, but it doesn't look like it would be terribly expensive to take out and reinforce (unless there's plumbing, for instance, that needs to be relocated). I'd probably get an estimate on what it would take to remove the wall. We did something similar when we moved into our house and it was surprisingly inexpensive to do what we wanted.

I would use the extension as a separate sitting area. Or use the extension piece as the TV area and the rest as a more formal room.

That's good to hear- no plumbing, but there is electric in the wall. We have a family friend coming this week to look at it, hopefully, so I guess this is mostly just a contingency plan in case it's bad news. He actually did something similar in my BIL's house, so here's hoping! It would just make it so much simpler!

That was another option- it's a little squished for a two couches in the extension, but we thought about putting a small sectional in there with the TV on the hidden wall and then putting armchairs and a bookcase in the living room area. Aside from that, we have a baby on the way, so I'm sure the room will fill up with toys and what not.
We also have a back room off the kitchen with cathedral ceilings and a skylights so we're thinking that would be where we'd spend most of our time watching TV/movies so maybe we're just needlessly driving ourselves crazy with this.

This. Maybe with an oversized chair and ottoman or with 2 large chairs, a small table. and an ottoman.

Electricity is easy to move. We had to move ours, too, now that I think about it. We had to move the light switch. Seriously, no big deal. I watched him move it and it was done in minutes.

Yeah, I'm starting to think this will be our best bet. The living room is still a nice size without the extension. We're now thinking sectional in living room with TV in the corner where the wall juts out and reading nook by the front window with big old armchairs and a little coffee table in between.

Yeah, I'm starting to think this will be our best bet. The living room is still a nice size without the extension.
