Who should take responsibility?
You rent a car from a branch location in the middle of a trip. You didn't intend to rent a car but it turned out it would be more convenient. You sign contract, no issues at all. After s few days, you decide it would be easier to return car to airport instead of branch location. You call up the local airport branch (which has the same car rental company on premises). You ask if you can return car there, even though you rented it from another branch. They said it's no problem, no fee, it's all the same as long as it's from the same area (and it is). You get the guy's name.
You return car, get hit with a big fee and you're told it's because you didn't return it to same location.
The contract doesn't seem to state this anywhere. And you were told by employee that it was fine and there'd be no charge.

Re: Who should take responsibility?
I feel like the contract must address this somewhere but if it truly does not, then I would fight it. If they charged my card I'd file a credit card dispute. Or call corporate office and file a complaint. I feel like it's pretty common that you can return a car to any branch. What if you rented a car to drive across the country? How would you return it then?

Who should take responsibility?
I have to sift through the three pages of fine print but I didn't see anything. I'm so aggravated. I hate this rental company as it is and this was their very last chance. I totally agree with you - who cares what location you drop it at. And we were told by this guy that it would be fine.

Who should take responsibility?
i think there is usually a fee to drop off at a different location but I would fight it and tell them to prove to on YOUR papers where it says it.

Who should take responsibility?
Many companies DO charge a fee for dropping off at a place other than where you rented. Which company is this?

Who should take responsibility?
This was enterprise. They really need to retrain their employees to not give out incorrect info.

I would call their 1800 number and complain!

Who should take responsibility?
I did. Well, it was the call center. We have to speak to the branch manager at the location. The call center lady pinned the blame on us, even though I told her the name of the employee who told us the info. We will see. Hate enterprise!!

How frustrating. I would dispute the extra fee if you don't get anywhere! Especially since you have the employee's name

Re: Who should take responsibility?
Something similar happened to me. I had to drop my rental at a different location due to flight change. They told me I would be charged when I dropped it off and I explained the situation. They were nice enough to drop the fee.
I don't know if they will reimburse you, but it's worth a shot.

Yes I've had huge issues with them before. I swore I would never use them again but we found they had the best rate when we were away and decided to give them another chance. Hoping this will be a smooth fix. I don't think it will be though.

i've found usually airport locations don't charge the drop fee, the local ones do. even if its the same company. we've looked at renting at an airport and outside the airport when we are on vacation. usually you get better info, if you call the place you rented from, instead of the drop off location.

Re: Who should take responsibility?
i think this is the norm now b/c when we rent cars for trips we always return to the same place.
our upcoming trip to chicago we are renting a car, driving to cinncinnati for something and then back to chicago b/c the price of leaving in ohio is like 4 x the amount.
im really surprised they told you it was the same and no fee. if you were misinformed i would try to fight it.
those contracts and agreements you get are ridiculous. its probably buried in the fine print somewhere.

Just because I rent cars often on vacation, there is ALWAYS a fee to return to a different location.
Unless you got a name from that location, its going to become a he/she said situation.

Re: Who should take responsibility?
It's standard to get a fee if you drop it off at a different location. My guess is they probably have a sign at the locations. And, it's likely in the contract.

See, I've always been told it is WAY more expensive to return at another location
