Powder vs. Liquid

For formula, can you guys tell me the pros and cons of powder vs liquid?

Sorry if this is a hot topic, this is my first time really even thinking about it and TBH I'm not sure what the real difference is.

Powder vs. Liquid

RTF is more expensive and doesn't last as long. I also noticed a difference in color and smell than in the equivalent powder form. My kids spit up a lot less with powder than RTF.

I dont think there is a difference in the contents -- ie the nutrition is all the same. I think the only real difference is the consistency (i found the ready to feed a little thicker), the ease (ready to feed is just pour and serve, the powder has to be measured and mixed), and the cost (the ready to feed is more money). All that being said I used the powder after the first 2 weeks of having DS home. Before that i was using the little nursettes which were super convenient at 2am!

The powder is more work because you have to mix it yourself. I bought a formula mixing jug that Dr Browns makes and that made it a lot easier to prep a bunch of bottles at once. Ready to feed (liquid) formula is more convenient but also more expensive. I used the powder once I had to start supplementing and it was worth the cheaper price to me.

We used powder because it is cheaper and you don't have to worry about keeping it cold. It's really preference though. As a pp said, there's no difference in the contents.

Re: Powder vs. Liquid

Powder is way cheaper.
You can take it on the go without it having to be refrigerated and just mix when ready to feed.
It's thicker so for my DD who had bad spit up issues, it just worked better

Oh and did I mention it's cheaper? LOL

I guess it depends on the baby, both my kids did not take to the powder (eventually both had to be on RTF Alimentum anyway).

powder is cheaper and easier imo.

the RTF needs to be refrigerated once opened, and therefore you would likely need to warm the bottle up for your little one. The powder can just be mixed with room temperature water and served. I would prepare the bottles the night before...fill them up with water and leave them on the counter. I had a formula stacker with the powder portioned out for each bottle and that was it. ready to go when needed

From what my mother has told me... its cheaper, its easier to travel with, and she swears it stains less and smells better if it comes up.

If I end up having to use formula... I'll be using a powder.

The only RTF I used were the nursette bottles. I kept a few.in my bag for emergencies when I was breast feeding. Those are super expensive though per ounce. The powder is much more economical. I think the large RTF bottles are pointless because you have to refrigerate them once opened so you it's tough to travel with.

The kind I used, Baby's Only Organic, only came in powdered so it was easy to decide. It blended so easily.

What everyone else said. And also, powder is super easy to travel with. It weighs almost nothing and you just have to mix it with water. If you have to travel with RTF it's a lot heavier and takes up much more space.

And, just to add, once its open, it has to be refrigerated so its not ideal for on the go.

You really aren't "supposed" to do this but I interchange between them. I just use what's convenient for me or what's on hand at the time. Typically I use powder though because we are always on the move.

Re: Powder vs. Liquid

Dd was super gassy and we noticed the powdered made her gassier as it got frothy when we shook it. She's doing infinitely better on rtf. But I do find powder more convenient.
