Weaning HELP!

So I nursed my first 2 for right about 14 months each. My third son is not weaning. He will literally beat me. He is 26 months. I feel very proud and I enjoyed breast feeding, but I want my body back, I want my boobs back. My dh wants my boobs back. Please help me wean. A large issue is we are living with my parents to save money for a house. We are here for a few more months, been here a year. He shares a room with us. It has been very hard because of this. He will not take a bottle or a sippy cup, nor do I want him to have one at this point. I think he mainly nurses for comfort. Please help me wean!!

Re: Weaning HELP!

I have no advice, but I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone. My 22 month old still loves to nurse several times a day. I went away for 2 nights and thought that would encourage him to wean - nope!

It doesn't really bother me so I'm not forcing him to wean yet. I thought we'd be done by 2, but that is looking unlikely...

Weaning HELP!

I don't have any advice but just wanted to say my 21 month DS old still nurses before bedtime. I had the flu and stayed away from him for 5 nights straight and I was hopeful that he would have lost interest but as soon as we were back to our regular routine he was asking for it right away. I have enjoyed it but I am ready to be done. Here's hoping they wean themselves soon!!!

How often does he nurse? I use to say mommy's boobies are sleeping and wear shirts that were not easy to nurse in. And just dropped sessions gradually.

You must have had a much more cooperative toddler. My DS literally pulls up my shirt and will help himself if I am sitting on the couch.

I've found not sitting when we're at home helps and being out of the house. I have also started offering him a cup of milk when he asks.

Re: Weaning HELP!

we had a book about cookie monster not using a bottle anymore. i changed the words around when i read it to her about not having 'momma's milk' anymore once she turned 2 since she was going to a be a big girl. started reading this about a month before her 2nd birthday. and cut back to just nursingin the morning. saying things like "they are working" or "sleeping" or whatever at other times of the day if she asked. she eventually stopped asking or told me that they were "sleeping"if it was night time.

2 weeks after her 2nd bday i had to go away a few nights for business. so i used that as an opportunity to go cold turkey. we still read the cookie monster book a few more times. and she agreed that she was a big girl like cookie monster.

sometimes she still asks. but its clear that she is testing me to see if teh answer is still the same. once i remind her that she is a big girl like cookie monster, she moves on. or if needed, i ask if she wants water or a snack. that usually does the trick.

so i would say to prepare for it so LO can mentally prepare (is there a milestone or date coming up that you can focus on to wind down?)

My son is the same way, He will help himself no matter how hard I make it for him.

Right now he mostly only nurses at night or if he is tired. But some nights he wakes up like an infant to nurse. ANd it is easier to give in than him waking everyone up. I feel I created this monster nurser!

Weaning HELP!

I just recently weaned my daughter and honestly I just didn't let her nurse. I cut out one session at a time and if she threw a fit, she threw a fit and then got over it. If she tried to nurse I would say no and then try to distract her with something else.
Morning and night were last to go because I knew they'd be the hardest.

Stick with offering him a cup of milk instead. My dd was similar. She was a little over 1.5 when she weaned. But she would try to pull my shirt down, and I would quickly offer her milk and it worked. I had gradually reduced the number of daily feedings until I was down to just after she woke, and just before bedtime. I kept bedtime for last, and dropped the am feeding by having a cup of milk ready as soon as she woke up. Then I started giving her a cup of milk right before bedtime, and I tried to distract her by reading her a book instead. Good luck!
