How long until you felt better? Any tips to speed up the healing process?

Re: Episiotomy

I had one with my first....It took me over 6 weeks to feel better- I believe mine didn't heal right. At my 6 week PP checkup I mentioned to my OB that I was still in pain so he said to dab some peroxide on it to see if that helped, otherwise he was going to have to cauterize it, but the peroxide actually worked.

Sitz baths with sea salt helped mine. It took a few weeks until I felt better. Sitting on an inflatable donut cushion helped too.

With ds, I was uncomfortable for 6 months. No joke. With dd, a few weeks.

Re: Episiotomy

I had a second degree episiotomy with a third degree tear. I was so uncomfortable I needed to take a full 8 weeks off and it still felt uncomfortable. Sitz bath and witch hazel didn't help me personally. Used a donut to sit which helped a little, but was tough to sit on holding the baby because of the pressure, I ended up getting a prescription gel to ease the pain. I used ice packs too, particularly at night. My OB said it takes a while for the stitches to dissolve and heal. Try to take it easy as much as you can. I feel your painChat Icon

Re: Episiotomy

I had an episiotomy and forceps delivery. The things that brought the most relief for me were the witch hazel pads and sitting on the inflatable donut. I started to feel relief after about a week and a half- completely better at about 2 weeks.

Re: Episiotomy

I had a horrible tear and episiotomy to deal with my DS. Witch hazel pads, squirt water bottle, topical numb cream the hospital gave and sitting on my boppy saved my life. It took a while to feel better :/
With my DD, she came out slower so he did a small episiotomy and was able to stretch the opening as she came out so no tearing and I had the most wonderful recovery. Night and day from DS.
