I had my OB appointment last night and going back Tuesday for an ultrasound. Because I'm having twins this is the only option for genetic testing. It will be a max $200 OOP. I don't care about the cost if it's beneficial. I'm 27 no health issues. Would you have it done? Or just do the NT scan at 12? Regardless I'll have the 12 week scan Also- when we were at the fertility specialist I had genetic testing as did DH, we were each positive for one thing not the same though we completed genetic counseling with recombine and a specialist because I have a rare mutation carry of PKU but they didn't feel a concern.

I'm 32, no health issues, had a single pregnancy and also had genetic testing through my fertility dr. My ob recommended the maternit21 test, my insurance didn't cover it but when I called the lab they offered discounted pricing. It cost me $140. I figured it was worth the money to get a more accurate reading than just the regular 12 week NT scan. After spending $$ on fertility treatments, spending the $140 wasn't unreasonable to me.

Yes I would get it done. Makes for a much less stressful pregnancy knowing.

Yes, I've done it 3 times now. I partially did it to find out the sex- not sure if that works for twins- but I also like that I know the results and have less worry. Just make sure you know the costs. The OB offices aren't always current on it. If your insurance doesn't cover it, they reduce to $200, but if your insurance covers it and you have a deductible, you may owe more. This time, I was charged about $700. I don't mind because my birth is this year and it just works out I owe more for this test and less for later expenses.

Awesome!!! Thank you everyone. I am going to call my insurance. I have a low deductible on my plan, although today I woke up to a $500 charge from Recombine where we had the genetic testing that I never authorized and my insurance won't cover! Oh the joys of paying for infertility! At this point, what's the point of even paying for insurance monthly!! Lol I'm going to have it done I think either way, just want to be prepared for the cost. As for gender, it does not give a definitive answer I have DI/DI twins, identical if they find one Y, the other is automatically a boy, since mine are fraternal I'll have no idea. Only if there is no Y, it's definitely 2 girls.

When you call insurance, they need the code for the test. I don't have it anymore, but I got it from calling maternit21. I actually got a good cost estimate from Maternit21.

I called my insurance they quoted me a little over $500. When I spoke with the OB I was told it capped at $200. DH and I spoke during lunch and we are just going to go forward with it. DH had a great point, if God forbid something comes back positive we have a good 20+ weeks to prepare for the needed care and research anything we can. Our recombine screening came back pretty good and the RE had no reservations so I'm praying it comes back good. I'll be getting the script Tuesday when I go in at 9 weeks

I would probably still do it too. And if you're seeing a RE, you probably will have a lot of charges and maybe go over your deductible this year anyway. In Dec or Jan, more plans started covering these tests in network and it wouldn't get capped for those plans. I still tried to call Maternit21 and get it capped, but they couldn't do anything because I was billed by Quest.
