Question about Child Turning 8 and Booster Seat
Once your child turned 8 years old did you take away the Booster Seat? I'm reluctant for safety reasons and she enjoy being higher up, wondering what others do or have done.
Thanks

Re: Question about Child Turning 8 and Booster Seat
I took my daughter out when she turned 8, but she is super tall for her age and I felt it was safer for her to be without it. But she has smaller friends who are past 8 and still in it. I think size is a big consideration.

What do you consider tall? My daughter is 50" and 68lbs. Would that be considered average?

Question about Child Turning 8 and Booster Seat
Mine is 9 and 53" and still in a backless booster. Not really in a rush to get rid of it

Re: Question about Child Turning 8 and Booster Seat
My girls are 52 and 54 inches tall and 55ish pounds...they are 7.5 and 9...both are still in a backless booster and will remain in one. In a pinch I have let them not use one, but 99% of the time they do.

Question about Child Turning 8 and Booster Seat
Thanks so far for your insight. Our seats are not backless, they're Britax full back booster.

Question about Child Turning 8 and Booster Seat
I follow these recommendations-5 step test http://www.carseat.org/Boosters/630.htm It is not against NY law to move a 8 yr old >60 lb out of a booster but NHSTA recommendations used by many other states is 4ft 9" and >80 lbs. It is a decision each parent has to make for themselves. If she enjoys it, I wouldn't rush her out of it.

Re: Question about Child Turning 8 and Booster Seat
My ds is 9. He just got out of his car seat. He is 4 foot 9 and 88 lbs. he did not get out of his hbb until his ninth birthday when he met the height requirement.

Re: Question about Child Turning 8 and Booster Seat
It's not so much about the age. The age isn't the magic number. It's about their height. I see no reason to remove it if she is fine in it. I'd go by the NHSTA recommendations posted above which is 4 ft 9" and >80 lbs.
My DD is 6 and still in a 5 pt harness and will remain in it until she physically outgrows it. She's very tiny so that won't be for a while.
IMO you can never have TOO much safety. But you can have too little

Re: Question about Child Turning 8 and Booster Seat
My almost 8 year old is probably 48 inches and 50 lbs. He's small for his age. He's still in a 5 pt harness and I have no intention of moving him out of a car seat any time soon. He has been in a backless and high back booster on occasion in other cars recently, but I prefer him to at least be in a high back one.

Re: Question about Child Turning 8 and Booster Seat
I still have my almost 10 year olds in a backless booster. One is ok with the height, the other is almost there, but my son only weighs 56 lbs so I am waiting a little bit longer.

This except my DS is only 75 lbs
ETA: My so's son is 8 and we still have him in a backless booster because he is shorter

Re: Question about Child Turning 8 and Booster Seat
My turning 8 yo is in a 5 pt harness. He is getting bigger so I feel comfortable with him not being in a booster on vacations or the occasional car pool.

I just took my almost 8 year old (next Sunday) out of a booster. He is 55 inches already and weighs 90 pounds.

Re: Question about Child Turning 8 and Booster Seat
4 ft 9 is the number where they can safely sit in a seat with no booster. No need to take it out if she is still under the weight limit.

Re: Question about Child Turning 8 and Booster Seat
My two older girls got out of their boosters at age 9. I might get flamed for this, but neither one is 4'9 yet. My oldest is turning 11 and starting 6th grade next week--and is 4'6.5. There is NO way I'd be forcing her into a booster.

Re: Question about Child Turning 8 and Booster Seat
we kept my 8 year old in it. I don't think he's tall enough and I didn't like where the seat belt rested on him without it. He's on the small side.

Re: Question about Child Turning 8 and Booster Seat
My DD will be 8 on the 19th...........i still have her in the highback booster. She doesn't complain and I feel better that she's using it so I'm in no rush to switch her.

Question about Child Turning 8 and Booster Seat
My 10 year old son sits in a backless booster, helps to make the seat belt lie better across his chest.
With all the accidents happen every day with fatalities, every single thing extra I can do to keep them safer I will. I just put my 6 year old back into her 5 point car seat after being in a full back booster.
