Newborn with sick sibling
DD1 is home sick today. I'm not sure if it's a head cold or more but she looks terrible, is totally congested and is complaining of a sore throat. DD2 is under 2 weeks old. I'm terrified of her getting sick. DH is home and we are both washing our hands like crazy. We are trying to keep them separated as much as we can. Any other tips?

Lysol, bleach and keep them in separate areas of the house. That stinks! Something really nasty going around. Oh.... wash hands with soap and then purell and then wipe down the faucet handles!!!

Re: Newborn with sick sibling
Pretty much what you're doing and what the PP said to do. Keep up with the cleaning and disinfecting and keep the kids away from each other. Anything your DD plays with just make sure to wipe after. Sometimes I even open the windows a bit to get the germs out and some fresh air in. Even when it's freezing.
Wash bedding too and blankets. Kids will get sick and there's always siblings, but hopefully your DD gets better soon/

Re: Newborn with sick sibling
I thought it was actually really easy to keep my newborn away from my toddler because the newborn stays still. Just keep them in different rooms. It's much harder when they're both mobile and want to play together.

Re: Newborn with sick sibling
Wash your hands constantly and try to keep baby in one room without your older one. Last year the day the baby was coming home from hospital one of my older ones came home sick from school and we all had pink eye. The baby escaped it all as the entire house got the cold and pink eye :(

Definitely keep them apart as much as you can and good frequent hand washing all around! My DD was born 4 weeks early on 11/29 and our 2 year old DS and I both had colds. We tried our very best to keep the baby healthy but we have been back in the hospital since Saturday with her. She has RSV and it's terrible. I wouldn't wish this on anyone.

Re: Newborn with sick sibling
Oh, I'm so sorry. I had a two month premature DD who we brought home from the NICU to my DS who had a nasty cold and sinus infection. It was sooooooo awful and I was also terrified of the baby getting sick and ending up back in the hospital.
I agree with the above advice-- keep the baby in a separate room, wash everything and wash your hands like crazy. Nurse if you are able to, the baby will get your antibodies. Whatever we did worked bc thankfully, she remained healthy.
