Re: C-Section Moms: How long was your hospital stay?
DD was born late Friday night, and I was discharged first thing Monday morning. I was given the option of being discharged on Sunday, but opted to stay the extra day because DD was having issues breastfeeding. I actually felt surprisingly well after my csection- I only took Tylenol for pain, so I believe that is why my doctor asked if I wanted to leave early
ETA: In the county I live in here in FL, there is a program where the L&D nurses do home visits to check on you and the baby 1-2 days and 1 week after discharge. They do vitals on yourself and the baby, weigh the baby and do an exam on mom (in my case it was to ensure my incision was healing properly). That may have also played a role in my early discharge

C-Section Moms: How long was your hospital stay?
I was there for what felt like an eternity. I went in on a sunday night to start induction. I didn't have him until 2 am on Tuesday so my first night didn't technically start until Wednesday. They wanted me to stay until Saturday but I begged and begged and they let me leave on Friday. So I was there 5 nights/6 days

OMG I didn't have a C but I wish I could have stayed in the hospital for a month!
They took the baby at night, my meals were served to me, I got waited on, brought any meds I needed, I got to lay in bed and watch TV, no waking up 6 times a night to the screaming newborn.
I would stay as long as humanly possible! It's like vacation!
Unless things have changed with the setup in 5 years, my hospital only has private rooms. The one thing that has changed though is now they have a rooming in policy. I was happy to send both kids to the nursery at night so I could recover from the c-section and the nurses brought them back when they needed to eat. I'm not thrilled about the policy now because DH will be home at night with the kids and I know how tough the recovery is at the beginning. I'm hoping the nurses will still be able to take the baby for a little while at night or at least help because I can't imagine getting in and out of bed with the baby and positioning both of us to BF on my own without being in a lot of pain the first night or two.
Thanks for the replies. Part of me wants to stay as long as possible before getting home to chaos and another part of me thinks going home earlier will at least allow DH to help out at night.
winthrop had that policy but i just refused lol.. they cant the rooming in policy on you. They also have a policy where they don't give the baby a bath until after you get upstairs to maternity, but we fought that one as well. they have stupid studies every few months, but none of it can be forced upon you.
I truly think the skin the skin is the best thing they started forcing on people though. It was an amazing bonding experience, and both dh and I spent alot of time in the hospital and at home doing it

I would find that intrusive to be honest. I wouldn't want anyone in my home that soon after I came home. And I would only want my doctor to check me or give me any kind of exam and my baby's pediatrician to check her out.

C-Section Moms: How long was your hospital stay?
With my twins in 2011 I stayed for 3 nights. I had a c-section at 11 AM. They pushed me to have one in the room with me 24 hours a day but I also had another baby in the NICU and my husband got the stomach flu while in the hospital the first night and had to leave. I had to beg them to take my twin who was not in the NICU so I could go down to the NICU. One night I also had to beg so I could get 3 hours of sleep. They were nasty about it but I said if I do not get some sleep I will be a nasty *****. They said fine and they took her for me.
With my son this past September my husband stayed with me the whole time and we had the baby with us 24/7. I loved it but if I did not have help or needed more rest I would have asked for them to keep him. I was in the hospital 3 nights for this c-section too.

I was actually offered something similar through stony brook bc dd was in the nicu. It was optional but I thought it was really nice. I was always anxious about what the baby weighed so it was nice to have that extra check right at home and she just went over basic care a little, asked how I was feeling (no exam for me but she said if I had any issues they'd help with that too). The nurse was also the one to set us up with EI when we needed it do that was one less thing for me to do. I would have appreciated the extra support with my first of it had been offered since I was a nervous wreck at times then.

C-Section Moms: How long was your hospital stay?
I was in for 3 nights each time. For my first c-section, I had the option to stay, but I elected to go home bc I couldn't rest at the hospital. For my second, they basically pushed me out of the hospital bc I was doing so well.

I can absolutely see how some women would not want this service- in my experience though, I was grateful they came because I was able to have an extra set of eyes on DD and myself while we were waiting for her first pediatrician appointment. All vitals and the results on the billi test they did in home were sent to her pediatrician same day. The nurse was also a certified LC, so she helped me with breastfeeding. It's a voluntary program, but I figured it couldn't hurt

Just curious how many days/nights you stayed in the hospital after your c-section. With DS1, I stayed 4 nights plus an overnight from the induction, but he was in the NICU and wasn't released until the evening that I was discharged. With DS2, I wasn't expecting my doctor to say I could go home after the third night so I decided to stay the extra night to recover more and not have to worry about stairs yet. I had my pre-op appointment for my upcoming c-section and my doctor mentioned that many people decide to go home after 3 nights.
How long did you stay in the hospital and what made you decide to stay longer or be released earlier? If you had multiple c-sections, how did your recoveries compare to each other?
They say this because they dont want to come the 4th day to discharge you usually ;). I was adamant I was staying the full 4 nights and my OB grumbled about it and said the same thing - most ppl go home after 3. The resident came by and played dumb and said the same thing. Too bad - I was staying. He had to come back the next day again to discharge me. Oh well!

I go to a large practice (10+ doctors) so I'll see whatever doctor is doing rounds each morning. The OB who's doing my surgery won't be the one I see on the other days. I like all of the doctors so if I don't feel comfortable going home on day 3, I don't expect any of them to give me a hard time.

Re: C-Section Moms: How long was your hospital stay?
Three nights for both I believe. With DS #1 I had such an awful time trying to nurse. They left him with me most of the time (and I think DH stayed with me on the terribly uncomfortable chair/bed) but I think the last night, they told DH to leave and told me to go to sleep and they'd take the baby and give him a bottle. I was a wreck! With DS#2 they pretty much left him with me all the time. I am not sure if they would have taken him overnight - I think they were pretty much all about the rooming in thing. I feel like the night nurse got a little cranky with me when the baby was crying and I wasn't jumping up to him - Ummm- someone just cut me open in the middle!!

Seriously, what do they expect? Thankfully I didn't have to care for the baby much bc she was in the nicu but I called for help constantly! I had the nurses and aides help me wash my pump parts, get my milk to bring to the fridge, you name it lol.

I would like to know on what other floor in that hosptial do they have a pateint who just had MAJOR abdominal surgery, getting up every 2 hours, reaching for an 8 pound bundle, etc? Nowhere. But because you are a new mom, on the maternity floor you are expected to care for a newborn and get in and out of bed with no assitance after having a major abdominal surgery. ANd why? Because of this "rooming in policy" aka the "we want to save money on night staff so we got rid of the nursery" policy. It's abominable IMO, it's an awful way to treat women, and honestly, it should be illegal

Re: C-Section Moms: How long was your hospital stay?
Induced on Friday, C-section (after failed induction) on Saturday evening. We left the hospital on Tuesday morning, so technically 3 nights after the section. I am in NJ but our hospital has all private rooms and rooming in. DH stayed at the hospital the whole time, though our house is only 5 min away. My parents came and stayed at our house so DH did leave for a few hours here and there while they came. That said, while DH was sleeping overnight there were definitely times when I called the nurses for things so he could get sleep. If he hadn't been there, I definitely could have called them to get the baby for me any time she needed to nurse and to change the diapers overnight too. The nurses were great and super helpful.
ETA: My recovery was pretty quick, I really didn't feel like I needed more time and was happy to be going home and feel a little more like myself!

C-Section Moms: How long was your hospital stay?
As long as I could and it wasn't long enough 4days. I left with crazy blood pressure issues and they didn't care. I ended up back in the ER one week later.
It's all about the money.
It was once recommended I get checked in to the hospital for observation but the OB (not actually mine as mine was on vacation) and the attending couldn't figure it out in time. OB assumed I had preeclampsia (but I didn't) and the doc thought maybe it was preexisting blood pressure issues (but I had none). So they sent me packing. I nearly collapsed in a store a week later

Re: C-Section Moms: How long was your hospital stay?
So I just saw this article this morning and thought about this thread adn the whole "rooming in" thing. This is awful. I hope this hosptial has to pay MILLIONS for what happened. All because they want to cut costs. Make no mistake, that is what this is all about. And now a baby is dead because of it. This is absolutely disgraceful and I really hope that hospitals start to look at these bullshyt polices because of it.
