Sound machine or not?
My dd's definitely sleep better with the a/cs on in their room, and even on the recent cool nights, dd1 has requested to leave the air on just for the noise. Do I get them white noise machines for their rooms, or will that make them dependent/start a habit that will be hard to overcome if we go on vacation or have a sleepover or whenever else we wouldn't have the sound there?

Sound machine or not?
It's pretty much the same sound as an air conditioner, so if they've been sleeping with the a/c sound for the past several months, then they are already in the habit of having white noise, especially if one is requesting that sound. We all use white noise machines in my home. And they're small enough to slip into a suitcase when travelling. I always bring one on the rare occasions that we stay in a hotel because it helps to block out noises from the hallway.

We love the dohm. My whole family uses them and we travel with them too. If I were flying I'd probably try any app instead but when we road trip we just throw it in our bag.

Sound machine or not?
I run my kids humidifier every night because the sound/ lights help them sleep. I don’t care if the paint peels off the walls in there.. as long as their sleeping and I’m sleeping

Re: Sound machine or not?
We've had the DOHM in my daughter's room since she was an infant and we love it and she loves it too. She's five now and will remind us to put it on if we forget, but if we're traveling or staying at someone else's house she sleeps fine without it.

Re: Sound machine or not?
That's so funny, I have a dohm machine at work for when I counsel kids (for privacy, distorts conversations) - all these years and I never thought to use one as a noise machine for sleep!

Re: Sound machine or not?
We used a sleep coach when my DS was younger who suggested the dohm sound machine. We still use it and my DS is an excellent sleeper. He's not dependent on it at all.

Re: Sound machine or not?
Since we took DD's AC out of her room she has been asking for it. (last night because it was so damn hot! but on cooler nights for the noise)
We ended up getting her a small fan at target and we turn that on for her at night for the noise.
DH is the same way- can't sleep without noise- we have a fan running all winter in our room.
He said the white noise machine doesn't do it for him- for some reason he needs the noise of the AC or fan.
Seems DD is the same way.
Me, I can sleep in silence, noise, a picket fence, whatever...

Re: Sound machine or not?
I was thinking about getting an air purifier for the noise now that the AC is out of our window. A fan would do the same thing. I just figured if we could get the noise and clean the air, than why not? This DOHM machine looks so interesting though. The reviews kinda have me sold. I still can't help but wonder if a purifier would give us the same result.
I bought a noise machine years ago, but DH hates repetitive sounds

Re: Sound machine or not?
Another vote for the Dohm. For those who aren't familiar, it's not like many other sound machines in that it's basically a fan inside a casing, so it's mechanical and not electronic. I find it to be much better than electronic ones as the sound is more regular and more like a fan or A/C, like some have mentioned. We do travel with a travel Dohm, but our kiddo is an amazing sleeper regardless.
