17 months and still on bottle...
DD still takes a bottle at bedtime and one in the afternoon before her nap. She drinks a ton of water out of her sippy, but as soon as she tastes milk in it, she throws it across the room.
How did you get your LO to switch to the sippy for milk? I would really like to get rid of the bottle ASAP because I feel like she's already been taking a bottle for too long

DS1 was on the bottle until he was 26 months. He wanted nothing to do with a sippy. We went cold turkey and it wasn't nearly as bad as we thought it would be...We didn't force it until after 2, he just wasn't ready.

We didn't. I didn't have the energy for the fits. We just tossed them a few weeks ago because she turned 2. I basically said "you are a big girl now and these bottles are going in the garbage." And she was fine with it. I still offer in a cup and she'll take some, but not all.

When she was ready it was easy. Before that...forget it. My advice...dont force it.

17 months and still on bottle...
My kids are younger and are finishing up with their milk transition, I tried giving milk in the Sippy since they have been drinking water from a Sippy since like 7 months old. You would have thought I poisoned them with the way they acted. If they are drinking a bottle until 2, so be it. Keeps them quiet and happy and screaming toddler twins is the last thing I want to deal with!

I used to always say when I was having a hard time with things like this...she isn't going to go to college drinking from a bottle, with a binky and shitting in her underwear. And I was right! I find it's best to follow your child's lead with things like this and not force a timeline. Each child has their own pace for being ready for things

This is my belief with most things. I’ve found it’s led to amore pleasant parenting experience between me and my kid, but also a gateway for judgment amongst some friends. I’ve had a couple friends ask me repeatedly when I’ll stop nursing... when my kid will go into a bed... when this...,when that..... Can’t please everyone I guess, but the only thing that matters is if what you’re doing works for you and your family.
And I’ll add to the list that no kid will take their crib to college either.

Re: 17 months and still on bottle...
If you celebrate Christmas...with my niece, they told her that they would leave all her bottles out for Santa to take, and Santa would leave all new nice cups. I think she was around 2 though, cuz she totally bought it lol

I wouldn’t worry about it yet. Even my ped said not to worry about taking the bottle way until 2ish. Both of mine gave it up easily at 2, give or take a month or two. Before that, neither were ready.

wow ok this makes me feel alot better that others had their kids on the bottle until closer to 2.. So far, I've been able to cut the morning one out without any problem, but she asks for the bottle in the afternoon and before bed. If she doesn't get the bottle or her favorite blanket, she won't nap/go to bed lol... I'll keep trying the sippy every once in awhile, but i won't start to push it until she is 2

DS 1 had his bottle until 3 and he's no worse for the wear. He was such a horrible sleeper that it calmed him and we didn't want to take it away. When he was 3 I said 3 year olds don't drink bottles and he gave it to me and that was that.
I tried to wean DS 2 earlier since it gets harder the longer you wait and he gave them up at 15 months.

Re: 17 months and still on bottle...
DD is 19 months and still takes the bottle just like yours- naptime and bedtime. She's actually sick this week and has been begging for it all day. But I'm trying not to stress it and take it away from her since she's clearly not ready. Like a pp said, it was similar with the pacifier. I tried earlier to take it away and nothing worked. When she was ready, it was SO easy. I'll probably try again after the holidays, but again not force it too much. And then if she's still going- right before her 2nd birthday in April and go from there.

I feel the doctors put you under so much pressure and you need to do what’s right for your family. At 17 months it doesn’t really affect speech or teeth but I would try and be a little more consistent with the transition. For my oldest we added some chocolate syrup and constantly decreased the amount until all milk. You have to remember that it’s not the end of the world if they miss a bottle and when they want milk they will drink it from the soppy cup. I would start fazing out afternoon bottle and work on night bottle a few days later, I don’t believe in cold turkey.

Re: 17 months and still on bottle...
My almost 17 month old is also still on the bottle. He's my third and I'm just too darn tired to push anything anymore It's become a comfort item for him so we're just letting it go for now. We'll revisit if he's still drinking from it at his 2nd bday.

Do what works for you and your family!
My DS was off the bottle by 8 months, but nursed until he was 3 years, 3 months. People would always give me the side eye when they heard he still nursed. I wanted to say MYOB!!!!!

17 months and still on bottle...
My oldest was 2.5 when she finally stopped drinking milk out of a bottle. I stopped fighting it and eventually she decided on her own that she was done.
My now 2 year old still drinks formula out of a bottle but it's because of her cerebral palsy. She has feeding issues and it's how she gets the bulk of her nutrients.

Re: 17 months and still on bottle...
I just went to cups... I took away all the bottles, showed her the empty cupboard and that was it.
They all asked for the bottle instead of a cup. But they eventually get thirsty.

Re: 17 months and still on bottle...
I'm in the same boat. My DS is 15 months old. Just Saturday I decided I couldn't take looking at the bottle dry rack anymore and threw everything out. I've been paying for it but I couldn't take it anymore. Now I have to get the courage to do that same thing to my 2.5 year old who is still on the binkie.

Now that I'm reading though this post and all of your responses I'm feeling pretty bad. He's my 3rd and I had my other 2 off as of the day of their 1st bday. This guy wasn't ready then and probably still wasn't ready. I just had it in my head he needed to be off of it by one. Ugh...but I can't turn back now!

17 months and still on bottle...
I just threw the bottles out at 12 months. I wanted to get rid of them badly and knew a day or two of not drinking much milk wasn't going to harm him. By Day 3 he realized he had to start drinking his milk from the straw cup I was offering. His milk intake went back to where it was after being down for a few days.
Multiple people (day care teachers, pediatrician) told me to expect milk to drop for a few days and they were right. He learned pretty quickly if he was thirsty and wanted it, he had to take from straw cup.

I did this too at 13 months. And I bought the same sippy cups in 2 different colors with the weighted straw and he had 1 color for water and 1 for milk. He took to it fairly easy and after 3 days he didn't ask for bottles anymore.

Both of my kids I had to stop bottles cold turkey... but after I took the bottles away they stopped drinking milk. They now get milk from other sources such as yogurt, and cheese.

Re: 17 months and still on bottle...
we have 2 sippy cups with very different nipples. One is for milk, and the other for water. We found that helped.
