Changing to a twin bed....
Our DD who will be 3 in May just got her big-girl furniture (twin bed) on Friday. She went with us to pick it out and has been super excited for it to come. Our plan all along was that when the bed came in, she wasn't allowed to use her pacifier anymore because "big girls don't use pacifiers" (and more than anything our dentist is already seeing changes in her palate from use at nap time and bedtime. She was fully aware of this and bought into it -- big girl bed means no paci. I don't know why but I expected the transition from her toddler bed to this to be seamless. She's had a rough time with the change to the new bed and on top of that, the fact that she's now without her pacifier. In retrospect, I realize this is probably too much change all at once and I probably should have either weaned her off the paci before her new bed came, but hindsight is 20/20. She's been without it since Friday and has been able to fall asleep without it (after complaining, crying, bargaining to try to get it, etc.) but she's definitely not sleeping as well. I want to give it back to her (I'm feeling super guilty for all the changes at once) and DH says that we can't go back now since we keep telling her that we don't have them anymore in the house.
Thoughts? Any advice? If you went cold turkey with the pacifier, how long did it take for them to adjust? Thanks!

Re: Changing to a twin bed....
Stick with it, it will get easier fast. DD was totally addicted to the paci and we said that Santa took them to give to babies and she asked for it a few nights ,cried a bit here and there but within a week she was fine. Since you came this far, I'd stay the course.

Re: Changing to a twin bed....
Do not give it back.
Not only are kids resilient, but they are smart. If they know you will give in, they will manipulate you. You need to set rules and boundaries. You earn their respect by being fair and firm.
You’ve made it this far. I promise you it will get better, not worse.
Kids need to learn to process through change. They don’t have to like it, but they need to process and adapt. It’s a life skill.
Be strong! You got this!
Edited - throw them all out! Then there is no choice. We did this with DD silly cups. She was so attached and still drinking warmed milk at age 2. In the trash was the best way. She was fine after a day or two.

Don't give it back! Stay strong, she will adjust in a few days! It took about 3-4 days for our DD to stop asking for it (she was 3).

Changing to a twin bed....
We went cold turkey. Then I found stashes of them all over the house, in the car. Every time I changed her sheets I’d find one wedged under her mattress. I still don’t know where she got them or if there are any left. There must be a black market pacifier ring in daycare

LMAO! Omg that is amazing!
I remember a friend once telling me that when she took away her son's pacifer that she would catch him on the baby monitor taking "hits" off one he had hidden under his mattress. Like real quick hit and then he'd hide it again. It's hilarious how addicting those things are to kids. I pictured him taking drags off a cigarette real quick

Changing to a twin bed....
We took my 3 year old's away a few months ago. Every once in a while I catch him staring at the baby's pacifier longingly. I suspect if left alone with one long enough he'd try it.
I've been tempted to give it back to him because it's impossible to get him to calm down at night, but I have a feeling even if I gave it back he'd still be a pain, so I stick with it.

We took DD's paci away. She was fine for a few months until she realized she could replace it with her thumb. Now I wish I let her keep the paci longer.
