Lump in breast Update Update number 3
So I have had a bit of pain in one breast (I thought it was from sex). I did my monthly check. I felt a small lump. I have booked an appointment at my doctor for Friday.
What should I ask the doctor to check for? What further tests do I have to do?
Background: GYN checked me out 6 months ago. My period ended the other day.
Please help me to remain calm because doctor Google doesn’t help.
Update: it went well. The doctor thought it wasn‘t anything to worry about, but she scheduled a mammo for me. At least I‘ll get that out of the way.
Tell me do they hurt?
Update 2: I had the mammo and it didn’t really hurt. A bit uncomfortable, but that was it. After the mammo, I had a sonogram of my boobs. Then I had to have another mammo done to check one spot. The doctor was a bit concerned about one part and said I should get a biopsy. She doesn’t think it’s cancer, but it’s best that I get it fully checked out.
Update number 3:
I had the biopsy and the results said benign, but they want to check again in 6 months. They also want to put a chip in there. Is this normal? I’ve been home for two days and it hurts. Tomorrow is a holiday (Corpus Christi) , so I can just relax. I never knew how much biopsies could hurt.
But anyway, a short update.

Lump in breast
I know my doctor said I have dense breasts. I have calcification in one my breast. My gyno actually found it when I was about 30. That's when I had started going for mammograms so they would have something to compare to.
I know it is hard not to google. Sending you positive vibes.

Stay positive and stay off of Google. It's likely nothing but I know that does nothing to ease your mind. I'm glad you're going to the doctor and I will be thinking of you and that you get good news.

Re: Lump in breast
Stop googling
Doctor will feel for it, then most likely send you for a Mammo & Sono to see what it is.
Keep yourself busy.
I had a lump a million moons ago that the Dr. felt in office and did a Biopsy right there. It was a cyst. Google is not your friend

Re: Lump in breast
Dr. Google is never a friend, do your best to stay away.
Get a script/referral (not sure how it’s done in Germany) for a mammo and sonogram. The results of that will determine if you need a biopsy for further investigation.
Feel free to FM me! I’ve been there, the waiting is agony.

Thank you everyone for your replies.
I’m having a bit of an issue with my health insurance, but it is being sorted out now.
They do referrals here. I just want to make sure that I get everything in order. I think I can get a sono done in the GP’s office. I’ll request that on Friday.
It just scares the hell out of me. I really hope it’s nothing, but it’s good that I’m going to get it looked at ASAP.

Re: Lump in breast
I had pain on one side a couple of months ago so my dr sent me for a mammo. It turned out I had a cluster of cysts in that area. Thank God nothing to worry about but still uncomfortable at times. I of course did the same and googled like crazy. Praying all goes for you.

Re: Lump in breast
I have dense breasts and feel lumps that seem to me to be a cause for concern, but after having mammograms, sonograms etc, it is just my dense tissue and it varies throughout my cycle.
I am guessing your doctor will feel around and if they suspect anything they will send you for a mammo and sono. I am not certain they would do a sono in office without the mammo first so dont freak out if she doesn't do one and sends you to radiology. My doctor would not do a breast sono in office; but I am not sure if that is the norm.
Good luck

Lump in breast
Hang in there! I felt a lump at the end of 2017 and it turns out that they both have a number of cysts that change size all the time. I'd never had them before (had a mammogram in 2016 that didn't show anything) so things can change.
HUGS!

Lump in breast
Just went through this and had an ultrasound. Found out I had several cysts and very dense tissue. The cysts are causing the pain, but they said they should resolve themselves and I have to come back in May to check again.

Lump in breast
As the counter to this....I had pain (sudden zaps in my breast), and then found a lump and I'm now finishing chemo (and will have surgery etc.). So while I'm sure the likelihood is more than not it is NOTHING, please dont wait to get checked. I wish you the best of luck and am thinking positive for you!

Re: Lump in breast
Have you had a mammo yet? If so when was the last one? I would go straight for the mammo. If you can feel it, the doctor will be able to feel it. You need a mammo to figure out what it is.

Eh. It depends. They don’t feel good that’s for sure. I always try and go about 3-4 days after AF ends because that’s when they are at their “softest” and aren’t tender. I have very dense breasts so they are hard all the time.
I would say there is definitely discomfort but not painful. When it starts to feel like you want to say “ah, that kinda hurts” is when it releases.

OK, that description feels OK to me. I‘m good with pain, tbh. I‘ll get it done with my mom when she is here. I‘m just so bad with nerves etc. I get nervous when I have to bring my cats to the vet. I can‘t handle watching the needles and I have to step outside. When they are in pain, I understand. I hope that helps explain everything.

Re: Lump in breast Update
I was petrified if having a mamo, and it did not hurt. It felt like a little bit of pressure. Now, I have big boobs, size D. I think if you have an A cup, it would be more annoying because there is not enough to smush between the plates, but if you have big boobs it does not hurt at all. It also matters how they set the machine up. If it is at the right height it is more comfortable. Your tech matters too. They place you on the machine and how they move your boob matters.so my answer is is does not hurt.

Oh And it's like being posed by a really annoying photographer. LOL
Put your arm up here, now take 2 steps in, hold your chin up, shoulder back.

Lump in breast Update
Depends on each woman if they hurt and has absolutely nothing to do with breast size. Big breasted women can have pain as can small breasts. Me personally, I have no discomfort at all. My mom on the other hand has a lot of pain.

Glad your dr thinks its nothing to worry about, but good to get checked anyway.
i have larger breasts, and it hurts me a lot. feels like someone is putting your boobs between a vice and pulling them off your chest - but it is momentary pain and usually as soon as i start to wince, its done. then they do the other one..
you'll be fine!!

I agree with everyone's previous post... The good thing is, is you spend more time in the waiting room then getting the exam.
I love the statement about the photographer.. Take a step back... take a step to the left, lift your chin up, put it down. Hold your breath. Don't blink. Step back.

I don't think mammos hurt. I don't even find them uncomfortable. You are squeezed for a few seconds while they get the pics and then it's over.

Re: Lump in breast Update
I've got pretty small boobies, so the worst part for me was the embarrassment of the tech: 1) Seeing them and 2) Trying to squeeze them into the machine.
Other than that, it's a bit uncomfy for a sec.

My boobs are a small C, so I guess that‘s small. I have gotten over embarrassment in the doctor offices here because they just make me get almost fully undressed with no hospital gown. So I just kind of am naked. That doesn‘t bother me.
The squeezing does. I‘ll just do it and deal with it.

Re: Lump in breast Update
If you have a lump that you can feel I would schedule the Mamo asap. I don't mean to freak you out but how would the doctor know it's nothing to worry about without a mamo? I have a friend that finally got diagnosed with breast cancer after pointing out a lump and other suspicious things a couple years earlier and her doctor telling her it's nothing to worry about. By that time it was already very bad, required a double mastectomy and frankly she's lucky to be alive today. Not that you would wait that long but this is something you need to do immediately. I can't recall specifically but if I remember correctly you are already over 40 no? Do they not recommend mammograms for all women over 40 in Germany? Just having family members and friends go thru breast cancer I would never wait if I suspected something at all. A mammogram is a simple, noninvasive test that can be done in an hour. I know you are nervous but it's seriously nothing.
