I need all the positive vibes I can get!

My mother in law hasn’t been feeling well for a while and has recently had a slew of health issues/ aches. (She doesn’t go to the doctor VERY regularly, always getting check ups). Anyway, went for a CT scan and on the scan they found multiple masses in multiple organs. She is going for a PET scan today and the doctor told my in laws to prepare for the worse. My husband has been riddled with anxiety, not sleeping and I’ve found him crying last night downstairs in the middle of the night. I’m not sure my husband is strong enough to deal with a possible cancer diagnosis in my mother in law and I worry that my mother in law may not look for any treatment. My mother in law is an extremely selfless person and will never put herself first and gives to everyone. I’m so upset over this, I grew up without grandparents and I want my children to have a lifetime of memories with theirs. I’m trying to stay hopeful and not show emotion too much in front of my husband because I don’t know if he will be able to handle this...please say a prayer or throw some good vibes into the universe!

I am so sorry you're going through this. My father was diagnosed with stage 4 esophageal cancer last year so I understand the constant fear and the toll it takes. I'm hoping and praying that she gets a "good" (as if there is any "good" when it comes to cancer) diagnosis and that she seeks out treatment.

I am sorry your family has to go through this. Cancer is so difficult, it is such an insidious disease. We're going through something like this now. As for your husband, he's likely strong enough, there is no other option, but it is very difficult to deal with the appointments, dealing with the scans, waiting for results, and basically being in fear of what the next appointment may bring. It means rethinking what your future with your parent may look like, being afraid of the inevitable and trying to deal with the fact that it may come sooner than you think.

I'm currently on parent #4 with cancer, my dad has prostate cancer with an aggressive tumor. He initially did not want any treatment, but after discussions with the doctor, agreed to radiation because there is a really good chance that he will be cured. If not treated, it would metastasize and spread to his bones, which would be very painful. At 84, this was his only option for treatment.

From my experience, men take sickness harder. They don't know what to do and how to handle their emotions.

I am going to suggest a wait and see attitude.
It is really difficult to do, but take one step at a time until you find out what is going on, if this is cancer how it can be treated, what the expected outcome is, and what quality of life will be.

All I can offer is be strong, take a notebook with you to appointments and write everything down. Ask questions, ask for second opinions if you don't feel comfortable with the first.
Most of all, I wish you and your family good luck and the strength to get thru this.

My mother in law had her scan, she has multiple masses all over and much of her body lit up as hot spots on the PET scan, our worlds are shattered and the devastation I feel is unfathomable. My husband is not doing well by any means and I am extremely worried. He’s been throwing up all day. My dad left work early and picked up my kids to care for them while I care for my husband.

What did they think was the primary?
The first step would be a biopsy to determine what type of cancer she has
They typically then decide on what kinds of treatments depending on the receptors found on the cancer if any
My understanding is Memorial Sloan Kettering is the best in NY if you need a second Opinion but I may be wrong ...

I am so sorry about your MIL. How is your husband feeling? Is he vomiting over worry, or did he catch something? If he did catch something, he should not be near his mom so she does not get it too with a weekend immune system.
