Any suggestions for a trip to Amsterdam. We are going with our elementary aged child. We have the Van Gogh Museum, Science Museum and the Anne Frank House planned.

Not sure what time of year you’re going, but a canal boat tour is great. We took a “Flagship” canal boat, which is one of the smaller boats, and leaves near the Anne Frank house. Also, you have to buy the Anne Frank tickets in advance. We also liked the Maritime Museum. Depending on how long you’re there, we went one day to see the windmills at Zaanse Schans. Enjoy your trip!

I agree with this! Definitely get tickets to the Anne Frank house in advance. I did a dinner canal boat tour & it was so nice! I also did a full day tour to areas outside of Amsterdam...but it was a little too long & had tourist traps. I think seeing the windmills would be cool, maybe a half day tour somewhere. It’s a great city!

When are you going? If it’s spring definitely go to the tulip festival Keukenhof. It opens sometime in March. Then do a bike ride through the tulip fields.
If you like biking, definitely do a bike tour. Get a tour and don’t just rent bikes unless you really know what you are doing. The Dutch are very serious about their bike traffic. It’s also easy to do bike trips to other cities and less crowded on the bike lanes. Once you get the bike map and directions down, it’s easy to follow.
Kinderdijk is awesome for windmills. Take a bus tour, though, as public transport takes a long time. I have done a few bike tours around the Netherlands, so getting to Kinderdijk by public transport takes a while. If you go to Kinderdijk, check out Dordrecht. It’s a cute town.
Are you willing to do other things if you are without the kids? Like Red Light District or something?
I love the Netherlands, and I think it is really worth it to do a day trip outside to other cities to see what the Netherlands really has to offer. Haarlem is really nice.

We got the IAmsterdam card and it was wonderful. Paid for attractions and most transportation. You definitely need to make reservations for Anne Frank and Van Gogh. The canal tour was awesome, the one we took had a child version and adult version (you listen on earphones). We did a daytrip to the windmills. We did not go with a tour company and it was super easy and it was a big highlight of the trip. *BE CAREFUL OF THE BICYCLES!!!!*
We had an awesome trip, if you have any questions, feel free to message!
BTW, We stayed at an airbnb which was super convenient to everything.
