I am convinced that this is part of our downfall. Why the fukk do people feel they have the right to just say anything they want to people. Are these things they would say in real life? I just saw someone say on FB they are "tired of this criminal being glorified" regarding George Floyd. Then you have the azzholes who are clearly using this to try to deflect and antagonize. How can people so hateful? They are saying things like "enough woth the protests, they were all charged criminally what more do they want?" We need to keep protesting until there is real change because obviously this keeps happening. I really wish these news pages would turn the commenting off at this point. Does anyone know if they get some kind of incentive for the most comments? I am honestly disgusted by the world at this point. Why are we even here?Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I’ve always said social media was the beginning of the downfall of society. I feel like it has caused so much division between America.

Agree but this is what people really think. It’s why we need the protests.

Change is uncomfortable and painful for those who fear giving something up. I’m really hoping we’ve reached a tipping point but I’m not sure, time will tell.

Some of the posts I have seen are truly disgusting. It is really heartbreaking. Not sure we'll ever get wveryo to understand, but most do - and hopefully that will be enough to start things changing in the right direction

Social Media

I've taken a big step back from social media during quarantine. At first, it was fun to post projects we did & see what everyone else was doing. But, the hate for government (whether right or wrong), the inaccurate info, the pure ignorance- it got to me. I don't enjoy it anymore. It's constant arguing and one-upping. It makes me angry, depressed and everything is so sensationalized, it's too much. I'm seriously considering deleting FB from my phone - I have vowed to look at it for the remainder of the week. I don't think I ever realized how fragile my mental health is, or maybe how it's become during this time. I never used to care or get offended and now everything sets me off.

Re: Social Media

The problem is that everyone is different. Everyone has had different experiences in their lives and have different opinions. SO many people want to shove their opinions down others throats and want them to change.

It IS disgusting though to try and have a debate/conversation with others and have strangers throw the F word around and tell you, you are an idiot or whatever they decide to insult you with that day.

Adults can agree to disagree, friends, family, spouses. People are under the impression that if you are my friend, or my spouse you HAVE to agree with everything I do. Life does not work that way. Heck I have even looked around this site and saw a woman say that if her husband would have voted for Trump she would have divorced him. Sorry but that is just ridiculous. I get total differences but that is a great opportunity to talk and maybe learn something about the other person.

This is the reason I never discuss politics, religion, etc on social media. Or in real life even. Especially at work.
You will never change someone's opinion.
And it just leads to bad feelings, arguments negativity.

My take on ignorant racists is that they are often not teachable...but it's worth finding out.

My take on social media:

Intelligent people with legitimate differences of opinion are one thing. On social media, comments sections, even sites like this.

But the ignorant and trolls who go after people they don't even know? Simply not worth anyone's time. They turn sites that could be used for idea exchanges into cesspools.

Personally, I am happy to discuss and share and debate ideas. But once I realize that someone is a toxic troll/bully, I realize that their own unhappiness and bad lives made them so pathetic as to be an online bully, and that they're not worth anyone's time. Maybe some pity.

I have blocked so many Facebook users in the news12 comments section. Not because they thy had said anything to me personally, but because I could not bear to read the vile remarks they were putting out there. I like to hear what people have to say, but I can’t listen to that kind of crap.

People are also so quick to believe anything they read on social media. They don't take the time to do research and get the facts for themselves.

Its a huge problem.
