Electric vs Gas Ovens

I have had a gas oven my whole life until I moved into my own apartment. Now I have an electric oven. Am I the only one who has a hard time cooking w/ them? I am okay w/ baking, but when I try to cook an oven stuffer, I always wind up having to cook it 40 minutes longer for it to be cooked. What am I doing wrong?

How long are you preheating it? Usually electric takes longer to preheat. Are you rotating your food during cooking. Electric ovens usually have hotspots making for uneven cooking.

It could be the type of oven - I grew up on electric and loved it. I have gas now and not a big fan I think everything takes so much longer.

YOu might want to cook at a little higher temp - my mom when she got her new electric stove and she would cook at 365 like always but things weren't cooking right - so now she uses 400 and everything comes out great and in the usual amount of time.

I love gas sooooo much more. My rice comes out much better and cooks so much quicker.

ITA!! I don't think pots of water boil as well either (not a full rolling boil like I got with my electric stove).

Re: Electric vs Gas Ovens

Maybe the temperature is off? Buy an oven thermometer. That should help!

I agree about the temp being off. I know with one oven, we have to raise everything by 5 degrees. With another electric oven, one burner gets high and stays high no matter how low you make it.

But I'm a gas convert, now. So much easier to adjust the heat.
