Job interviews
What do you do/say at your current job when you have a job interview? I think the dr appt thing is running out at this point.... I have an interview tomorrow during lunch. I am thinking of just leaving and not saying anything. Of course I am sure it will be the one time someone desperatley needs me that minute. It involves taking a cab so I am going to be gone for well over an hour I am sure.
Any new ideas/excuses? I just dont understand how I am supposed to get a job while I have one!

Re: Job interviews
First, hooray for you for interviewing!
It won't work for tomorrow, but are you able to work from home at all? Soooo many people I work with will work from home and be "unavailable from 2-4:30 pm."
Other things to consider: - schedule only early am or late pm, before and/or after work - see if you can do a phone interview first - stack up multiple interviews on a day off
good luck!
ETA: Are you having plumbing, cable, furniture deliveries, heating, etc. issues? Those are always nice alternatives to dr appts.
ETA again :bklyngirl is way smarter than me -- listen to her "meeting a friend for lunch" suggestion!

Re: Job interviews
Nahhhh the friend for lunch thing wont work at my place. I barely get to actually take lunch as it is! I am going to try and lay low tomorrow and sneak out!
I cant really have any of those house issues cause I live in Queens and work in Midtown. So if I have a lunch interview, I am already at work - I cant leave and come back with that sort of issue - it wont jive you know what I mean?
No one is allowed to work from home either.
I have a lunch one tomorrow - I havent had very many people flexible with the early morning or late interviews. I had one at 5PM once and it was like they were doing me such a huge favor by "waiting" for me.
Problem is I get interviews...no job offers though! I wish all this sneaking around would be worth it one day!
Thanks ladies!
Anyone else have any bright ideas!?!??!

Re: Job interviews
Just say that you have to run out to order a dress for a wedding, or need to pick up a small gift or something. Then say that you got stuck underground on the subway, and couldn't call to say you were running late.
I think we just get paranoid when we go out on interviews that our current employer is going to catch on. I think in most instances they won't even realize you are gone.

Re: Job interviews
and if u need to take a cab (i'm assuming you're in the city) you can always say you got stuck in traffic coming back.
however, if you don't usually take lunch I doubt your employer would say something if you took a little bit longer this one time.
as for interviewing in general, i try to do it early morning or after work. people are usually understanding about that.
