Question: re Amnio

As a multiple mom to be, I was told that I would be receiving the NT scan and AFP tests and being twins, they may not be 100% accurate.

If not, an amnio would be presented, if I choose to go that route.

If you had one done, was that the reason why?

Re: Question: re Amnio

I was never told this. In fact, I was told that the results were adjusted because it was twins - that they used different parameters.

I did have an amnio, but it was the day before they were born, to check for lung maturity.

Re: Question: re Amnio

i was told the blood test after ultra screen was not really accurate - the trisomy test
so we ended up getting the amnio, just so we know for sure whats going on

Re: Question: re Amnio

We did not do any testing or an amnio. I was actually told the results on twins were not as reliable as singletons

Re: Question: re Amnio

I actually just got my results today and spoke to my Dr. about this. She said that of the three tests (2 blood tests and nuchal translucency sono), the nuchal sono is the most important. It's not that the blood tests aren't important, but they have to average the odds because it's twins - more than get a specific percentage if it were a single pregnancy. My doctor explained that the only thing that is 100% is an amnio.

I opted not to get an amnio because my doctor said that the risk of my having a miscarriage from an amnio was greater than my chances of carrying a child with a chromosomal abnormality. I'm over 35 and was expecting pretty scary numbers. I was happy with the numbers that I got.

Re: Question: re Amnio

I was also told they were not reliable. My numbers were actually pretty low...called my ob and he said not to freak out about it. He did say I could get an amnio if I wanted to, but when I asked his opinion...he said it was not necessary.
