Curious - how do you test a toddler's IQ?
DS is 2 yr 9 mths.
The school psychologist is evaluating him on Thursday including IQ.
What types of testing do they administer on toddler's (especially ones with communication delays) to gauge these things so young? Just curious really.

Re: Curious - how do you test a toddler's IQ?
I'm a preschool psychologist, and I do frequent CPSE evals. Many of the children I evaluate have speech and language delays. IQ testing involves looking at nonverbal skills as well as verbal skills. We look at visual-spatial reasoning and problem solving skills through tasks like replicating block designs, and doing puzzles. Depending on the measure they psychologist uses, (s)he might look at things like matching and sorting abilities. Feel free to FM me with specific questions/concerns, or if you have any questions after the eval. Also, please remember that IQ is not stable at this age, and really is a snapshot of how the child is doing at that specific moment. Best of luck!
