If you're doing it today, I'd be more pizzed that you had me work all day, THEN let me go. If you're going to do it, do it before lunch so I can go home and b!tch about it, and not have to sit through rush hour traffic.

i completely agree

I disagree.

I would rather know at the end of the day.

#1 ... If I'm working all day, I would be getting paid for it so Its not like I wasted my time

#2. I would rather leave without causing a scene in front of everyone, you know.. packing up my desk & all my personal belongings. I would rather do that when everyone is gone.

I agree, no one wants to do that walk out of the building with their box of stuff with everyone watching them.

Generally we don't do it on a Friday. Some of our staff live alone & going home for a weekend with that news is something we try to avoid.

I'd rather be told on Friday so I could drink away my sorrows (and last paycheck) all weekend.

I learned from an old boss that there's a school of thought that says you're supposed to do it on a Monday morning, because then the employee is less likely to return to their place of business over the weekend or in the evening when no one is there and damage the place or steal things.

I would do it as soon as possible. When I was laid off in 2008, the rumors started spreading the day before it actually happened. The morning I was laid off, I was late to the office because I had an appointment with my high risk ob/gyn(I was 8 months pregnant). As soon as I came in, that's when they did it. I only wished they did it the day before instead of making me come back.

Told one person at 1 on Monday and the other at 3 - was best I could do with all of us being in different meetings.

The both are going to finish out November for the extra pay and then get their lump sums which is 6 weeks of pay for one person and 20 for the other based on time here and what they negotiated.

Sucks letting them go but I hope to get approval for keeping graphics person on as a freelancer.

To get back at my boss for all this BS I made him take clients to the Giants/Dallas game last night. My days of doing all the entertaining are over.

Thanks everyone for your input. I think in the end Monday is better than Fri, who wants their weekend ruined versus a ruined work week.

By the way I spoke to my DH who mentioned that if they earn over $400 a week, they aren't eligible for unemployment that week - which is why they lay off on a Friday.

and if you work over a certain amount of days (sorry I can't remember how many).

I'd rather whatever day comes first. Unemployment is all online nowadays. If you need to call them, at least the 'paperwork' is in. You have to wait a week to actually collect anyway.

You know, when I got laid off I don't really even remember what day it occured. It totally sucked. Plus, it sucked b/c I still had to work through the busy season of my field in order to get severance.

so, frankly I don't think it really matters. You can think of reasons why one day is worse than another just as easily as you can find upsides to the different days.

I agree w/ PP - rip the duct tape off so everyone can get on with it
