Working Moms with Twins and Toddler-Daycare Question

My sister has 4 month old twins and a 3 year old, she just went back to work.

The cost of daycare is super $$$$

Just wondering what everyone in this situation is doing?

Are you staying home?
Daycare center for all 3
Family watching for free or small amount
Babysitter or Nanny

Re: Working Moms with Twins and Toddler-Daycare Question

My twins are due in March and I have a 2 year old. My DD goes to a babysitter 5 days a week and she said she would be willing to take the twins too. Im a teacher so the twins won't be going until September. Right now I pay her $300 a week for DD. Im hoping she will take $400 or $425 week for next year. We still have to negotiate a price. Next year DD will also be in nursery school 3 days a week.

Re: Working Moms with Twins and Toddler-Daycare Question

Our twins are due early June and DD will be 21/22 months depending on when they arrive and we are trying to figure out care. Ideally I would love to stay home and pray daily that by some miracle I could...not likely though!!! So I will be going back to work.

My MIL is retiring Feb. 4th so we are planning on doing 3 days a week with her and 2 days a week with my mother. When my MIL watches her she will go to an 18+ program for 2 1/2 hours and the twins will go to my mothers and try to alternate...honestly I don't know how it's going to work but it will somehow!!

Re: Working Moms with Twins and Toddler-Daycare Question

I am a SAHM. I have no family to help, both my mom and MIL work full time.
The price of daycare for all 3 was way too much. Plus DS is in pre school now and I have nobody to drive him back and forth.

When DS was 2 and before I was preggo with the twins I though about going back to work, but it just wasn't practical for us.

I do work VERY part time, like 4 hours a week. I leave for work after DH gets home or if he is working late my mom will come over after work.

Re: Working Moms with Twins and Toddler-Daycare Question

I work part time (2 x 10 hour days).

My 2.5 year old gets dropped off at preschool by DH on his way to work at 9:15. My MIL picks him up at 11:45 and keeps him at her house until DH gets home. MIL doesn't take $ from us but we buy her a lot of gift cards and presents as payment because she will take those things. (say from $50 some months and up to $200 some months).

MIL isn't available to help any more than that bc she watches my SILs kids on the other days. I have no other family to help besides her.

The twins (6 months) go to a daycare center. I drop them off on my way to work and pick them up on my way home. Since I work long days, sometimes DH will pick them up or I will leave early and work from home 1-2 hours. It is still expensive... 2 full days per week for the both of them is about $350 per week. Thats $1400 a month for 8 days. Chat Icon

Re: Working Moms with Twins and Toddler-Daycare Question

I work full time. I have a 4 year old in pre school and 16 month twins. My MIL babysits 3-4 days a week. My husband goes in to work at 1:30 so he picks up my older son at 11 from school.

I have a high school age babysitter who comes one afternoon and another babysitter who comes on Friday. 5 days a week is way too much for my MIL and there is no way we could afford any kind of daycare for all 3.

Re: Working Moms with Twins and Toddler-Daycare Question

We have the world's greatest nanny. It costs a lot, but she has become a member of our family. I work ffull time but not 5 days a week. Our nanny works four days a week. My parents help take my eldest to nursery school.

I don't know how someone does it without lots of help.
