Sweet Irish Soda bread?
Is there such a thing? I have a major sweet tooth and don't typically love isb but I think I had a sweeter version once and loved it. Anyone know of a good recipe?

Re: Sweet Irish Soda bread?
I have a recipe that is a little sweeter than traditional bread. I always eat it with a little honey and it satisfies my sweet tooth
rish Soda Bread
4 cups flour 1 teaspoon baking powder 1 teaspoon baking soda 1 teaspoon salt 1 cup sugar
Mix all of the above ingerdients together. Add the following ingredients and mix by hand:
1 stick of softened butter 1 1/2 cups buttermilk 1 cup raisins 1 tablespoon carawy seeds (optional)
Knead all of the ingredients together. Put into a buttered 9 inch cake pan. Poke the top with a fork in a few spots. Bake for 1 hour at 350. (if you notice it getting too dark loosely cover with tin foil--it depends on your oven but I always do a little more than half way through)

Re: Sweet Irish Soda bread?
I have one from a co-worker years ago that I love - it's more like an Irish Soda Cake.
Irish Soda Bread/Cake
3 cups sifted flour 3 teaspoons baking powder 1 teaspoon baking soda ½ teaspoon salt (optional) 2 tablespoons of caraway seeds 1 cup raisins 1 cup sugar 1 egg ¼ lb. Butter or margarine 1 ½ cups buttermilk
Mix all ingredients together (by hand, don’t use a mixer) and put into a greased tube pan. Bake at 400 for 40 minutes or until done (knife comes out clean). Batter will be thick.

Re: Sweet Irish Soda bread?
Here's my very easy and sweet recipe!
1 1/2 cups of buttermilk 1 1/4 cups of raisins 1 cup sugar 1 egg 1 tsp baking soda 1 tsp salt 2 tsps melted butter 2 tsps baking powder 4 cups flour
Combine all ingredients in large bowl. Mix with hands. Cook at 350 degrees for an hour. When done, wrap in dish towel and cool on it's side. This makes either 1 large loaf or 2 med size loafs.

Re: Sweet Irish Soda bread
i will only eat irish soda bread from steinbergs bakery in oceanside. Its a jewish bakery but they bring in soda bread around this time of year. It doesn't have many raisins and has a more dense, cake type of texture. It is soo good, I usually buy a few and freeze them!
