Re: GFCF diet (gluten free dairy /casein free)

2 years ago I took my son to LI Spectrum Center. They ran a bunch of tests and told me to totally cut all gluten/caesin from his diet. So I did. After 6 months I saw no changes but he was eating healthier we ran across Dr. Cunningham who performs NAET. I wasn't totally convinced in her method but gave it a try. We went there for 9 months and after alot of $ still sadly saw no change.
Last summer I took him to an alergist who ran skin tests and nothing came back +. She said that LI Spectrum tests were not FDA approved and are not based on proven data.
So now I still hold back on some things, like dairy because I notice it upsets his stomach and doritos make him off the wall. He refuses to eat GF foods so that surely doesn't help.
There's tons of info out there if you google it. Hope it helps your son.

Re: GFCF diet (gluten free dairy /casein free)

I do believe that gluten and casein can cause inflammation, which of course is not a great thing. However, what I realized thanks to "Diane' :) was that 'soy' was in so many of the gluten free products I was giving my dd. And for us, SOY was awful !!! So with that said....the diet is really difficult.

What we do is rely a lot on coconut milk/coconut yogurt etc. (even coconut water) Coconut is excellent for kids who have adrenaline issues.

You can also look into enzymes, that would just help the body breakdown the gluten, dairy etc....

Re: GFCF diet (gluten free dairy /casein free)

My son has intolerances to gluten, casein, and soy is a BIG NO NO. Soy is awful, the way it is treated. I think our food is so poised now with GMO's which is why I believe there is such a HUGE increase in food allergies.
We first cut out dairy. Start little. we subsituted milks, such as almond, rice, but now we do coconut milk.
Do the dairy for afew weeks, then cut out the gluten.

Where do you find coconut yogurt? I've looked in Fairway which has a huge selection of GF and coconut products but I haven't seen it.

The GFCF diet can be very succesful but it does not gurantee full recovery. There are a lot of successful stories with this diet along with supplements. It is noted that you can see full recovery, some improvement or none at all but I think it is worth a try. Dr. Sears The autism book is a good resource of diet and supplements along with prevention and intervention info. GOod Luck! You can find a DAN that can help you with the tests (blood and urine). If you are on facebook I recommend to follow this blog:The Autism Puzzle (alternative medicine) she recovered her daughter from autism and she describes her protocols etc.

Which flavor milk tastes like regular milk? Ped recommended rice. Also can I use nesquick chocolate powder? Ped said they make a milk free chocolate milk too. Wondering if you've tried that as well.

Be careful with rice milk...it can be binding. Nestle quick...check the ingedients to see if there are any traces of milk.
I use the vanilla favored coconut milk.

How about Goat milk? i know that is easily digestible than the cows milk?
I know some health stores sell the chocolate coconut milk.

Re: GFCF diet (gluten free dairy /casein free)

Rice Milk has a ton of soy in it.

Rice Milk is also not really that nutritious. I would highly recommend coconut milk, coconuts are so good for inflammation.

Also you may want to read Dr. Kenneth Bock's book....Healing the New Childhood Epidemics

Thank you so much for the book reco.

He LOVES the coconut milk thank goodness!! I did want to try another flavor maybe almond? Only wondering about another option in case coconut will make loose stool. I heard coconut is a natural laxative ??? I think I got that from the movie cast away.

Also just want to add I'm using wheat & gluten free pasta called Tinkyada that he loves and does not taste bad or gummy at all.

Re: GFCF diet (gluten free dairy /casein free)

Rice milk also contains arsenic. We have been gf cf for 1 yr. saw big changes in a couple days of diet. We also eliminated soy as a personal choice and he has awesome eye contact and doesn't seem so spacy plus stool is solid instead or mushy or unformed.
