Texture Issues turning into behavioral issues?

DS is 2.5 and has a SPD. He has issues with textures and na oral motor delay. He has always been a big gagger and had issues with food from about 6 months old. Everything had to be the right texture for him.. At 9 months, he started table food and ate chicken, turkey, potato's,pasta, peas, carrots, rice, pancakes, waffles, eggs... At a little over 12 months, he stopped all table food except pancakes and waffles. Back to baby food. He would nibble on real food every once in a while. He would go off of pancakes once in a while. He was eating yogurt and fruit (fresh sometimes). This past Feb he went off of pancakes totally. Now he only eats yogurt, pureed fruit (Beech Nut fruit pouches), crackers, and cookies. He is getting speech 3 times a week. One day is feeding. It hasn't helped at all. Sometimes I think it is behavioral because he knows how to get what he wants from the other family members who live in the house. HE is also a slow teether and has been working on his 2 year molars since Oct. 2011... Doesn't help. When he acts up with eating I remove him from the table and wait and try again later. When he only eats fruit and yogurt, there isn't much to do. We have tried the "if you take a bite, you can have______." Doesn't work. We have tried to use the I-Pad to help distract him.. Nope... How do I determine if it is from his real issues or if it his him just moody? He is so strong willed and he can put up a fight. He will go without eating if it comes down to it.. Chat Icon

No real advise b/c I'm going through the same exact thing with my DS. I think the boys were separated at birth... Chat Icon Chat Icon

Mason has sensory issues and wasn't diagnosed with SPD. He does have a lot of texture issues, but as he's getting older he has outgrown some of them (or just getting better at tolerating some things).

Bribing with TV or the Ipad used to work. Doesn't anymore. He's become so strong willed and stubborn! If I put anything in front of him other than his "usual" foods he whines and starts hitting the back of his head on the chair. Not hard, but that's his thing. Either that or scratching his head.
Even stuff he does like he whines for a bit until HE'S ready to eat. Chat Icon

The older he gets the harder it's becoming.
I'm there with you so you're not alone. I keep hearing it'll get better. Sounds like it may take a few years so hang in there. Chat Icon
Meanwhile... his 9 month old brother eats everything. I don't know how they're related.
