changing locks after closing

Hi! I will hopefully go to closing soon. Anyone hire a locksmith to change the locks?

What was the cost if you remember?

I have had some very capable do it your selfers who remodeled their houses share that at times changing locks has gotten hairy. My foreclosure was previously owned by a drug addict. I don't want a lock issue to run into the evening when I close and then be stuck (single homebuyer)..... so I appreciate the encouragement to to do it myself, but I'll just make some calls for estimates.

Figure out who has needs to be replaced, go to home Depot or Lowe's. Buy new locks, probably need a screw driver... Shouldn't take long. Make sure they work and make copy of said keys. Throw out the old stuff

There are dozens of threads on the Home forum about this. One of the threads was within the last week or two. All it takes is a screwdriver and about 5 minutes per lock to change. No need to call a locksmith. If you need more than one lock, you can ask the staff at HD or Lowes to help you get the same key for all the locks. That way, you only have one key instead of 6. With the Kwikset brand of locks, it's even easier. Just get the ones that you can re-key. It takes seconds to reprogram the lock to use a new key, so you can program them all to use one key. I have 6 locks and they all use the same key.

You can also have your lock re-keyed. This way you don't have to buy new locks.
