MENU HELP- gender reveal party and mom's bday in the same day
We are doing a gender reveal with friends and family this Saturday.
Told friends to come around 4pm. my family ( just mom, brother , sister in law and 2 kids) are coming earlier, around 2:30 to celebrate my mom's bday.- we'll prob do a small ice cream cake but I should serve something in addition, don't you think?
they are coming from ny and I live in NJ.
what do I serve later in the evening?
friends are coming around 4.
I need to def serve something b.c this is going into dinner time and a few people traveling from far.
dips and appetizers for mom and family and then make your taco bar later for dinner?
any ideas?

Since your family is coming around lunch time, I'd probably do a cold cut platter with rolls to make sandwiches and chips and dip to pick on.
The taco bar later on would be fun. Or you could make it easy and just order some pizzas and maybe a tray of pasta and/or salad.

If you're planning on serving dinner to the 4pm crowd, then I'd say you have to start with apps for them, too, since people tend to expect to snack when they arrive. Then eat a bit later.
It's too much, though, to serve apps at 2:30 and then 1.5 hours later. If you plan on doing an ice cream cake for the 2:30 crowd, I'd just keep it at that. Maybe a fruit salad, too. Then serve the food food when the larger party arrives.

I would do a cold cut platter or even just a fruit platter for your family and then apps/chips and dip for your larger group with taco bar a little after that.

I would serve dips and apps for you family when they arrive then cake- then I would put out more of the same dips and apps when your friends arrive. Make you own taco bar sounds fun- you could tie your dips and apps into the Mexican theme.

thanks all.
I had chips and dip and some olives and mozzarella for family and then ordered a hero for the 4pm. did hero at 5. it was perfect!
