If you drive DC to school ...

How bad is it to drop off / pick up?

DS is starting K in the fall and although we're eligible for the bus, I'm not 100% comfortable with it.

Re: If you drive DC to school ...

I drive my kids to school. I started for the reasons you said - now that I have two kids in two different schools (one is in pre-k) - it's honestly easier to just drop and pick them both up then worrying about being home for the bus. It's really easy for me not a pain at all. It takes about 2 min in the morning (I don't even leave the car) and then about 5-10 in the afternoon as I have to go into the school. With that said, it is well worth it - I see the teacher every day and am in the school every day. That kind of communication is great in Kindergarten! There are a number of people that do this. It's a win-win situation. The kids are happy, you don't have the annoying influence of the bus and you get to see into the school day.

Definitely check with your elementary school though because every school has a different protocol for drop-off and pick-up :) Good luck!

We park and walk up to the front doors. We wait usually 10 minutes or so. If it rains we wait in the car. I don't have a choice we live too close to get a bus. It's not bad I have my routine and that helps

Its not too bad. We have the option to park and walk them to the front door or just go in the semi circle and let them jump out on their own. I always park so i can give him a hug before he goes in but he only lets me go to the path and not all the way to the door lol.

ETA: we live too close to ever get a bus but even if we did qualify i would drive them.

I drive my DD everyday and pick her up. Not a fan of the bus, or the nasty behavior on it. Not to mention I can be home for an extra 25 minutes in the morning, and probably 40 next year, so it's just better for me to drive. We drop off at the front door. People can't follow rules though and park on the curb and walk their kids to the door, thus blocking the flow of traffic. But, I would rather that minor inconvenience, then deal l with the BS that goes on riding the bus (at least around here).

Re: If you drive DC to school ...

My DD is eligible for bus. Last year when she was in K she didn't love the bus so we started routine that I drop her off in the morning and she takes the bus home.

Its better for us with me driving as we have a hard time getting up and out in the morning so gives us extra 25 minutes. I usually park and walk her to front door about 5 min before school starts. She loves that time we have together and gets upset if I can't bring her.

I drive. One of my sons has life threatening food allergies and I just didnt feel comfortable with him on the bus. Its very easy, drop off is simple. Pick up takes a little longer because we have a ton of parents who pick up

Re: If you drive DC to school ...

I drive DS to school on the weeks he lives with me (he goes to school in ExH's school district so he takes the bus when he is with him).

For me it's a pain in the butt because his school is 20 minutes away, so I have to get up and out the door much earlier than I normally would. But I time it well and we get there just as they open the doors. I enjoy walking him up to the front and getting to kiss him goodbye there. I also like being able to physically see that he's getting into school safely. That's the best part of it - I can go to work with the peace of mind knowing for sure that he got there OK and he didn't get into any trouble on his way. When he takes the bus on ExH's week he has gotten into some trouble on the bus for not sitting in his seat or whatever.

I drive in the morning occasionally. We are totally spoiled with curbside drop off. It's very organized and sometimes easier than taking to to the bus stop. I'm not sure how the PM pick up is.

Re: If you drive DC to school ...

At DS' school, the farthest you need to walk is a block. No big deal IMO

Yup....yup....and yup! I swear we spend more time waiting for bus drop off and pick ups than I do at home. And after a serious bullying incident on our bus I pulled my son from the bus situation in Kindergarten. He is now in 2nd grade and actually enjoys seeing his friends in the morning at drop off.
