NYC DOE interview TODAY - help!!!
Email principals your resume! I got a lot of interviews that way. Also Teachers College has a job board under their resources tab.
Queens is hard to get into for general ed. I know many don't like the commute but Brooklyn and especially Bronx schools hire for gen Ed more often.
Good luck!

NYC DOE interview TODAY - help!!!
Definitely walk in resumes and email principals directly. That's how I got my position in queens. I was working in a private school in Brooklyn for 7 years before.

Re: NYC DOE interview TODAY - help!!!
Thanks... I am going to print out the addresses of all the schools in Queens and walk them in next week. I am also going to apply to Brooklyn and the Bronx (ugh).
This sucks!

Re: NYC DOE interview TODAY - help!!!
I am so sorry you didn't get the job.
I have been there and it sucks.
A few thoughts:
Have you tried craigslist? A few schools advertise on there (which surprised me.)
Some good news for you: With open market closed, anyone who wants to transfer within the DOE has to get released by their principal. I have heard many stories (including in my own school) of principals not releasing people, which creates uncertainty for everyone, and therefore puts non DOE candidates on more equal footing with those already inside. So don't give up.
Also, even if you don't get anything by September and you are willing to work in a tougher school, you still shouldn't give up. Things will open up in the fall as teachers leave. The year I got my job I went on several interviews in November. I got my job in December after the teacher I replaced had a nervous breakdown. Four years later I can see why, and I have left my school, but it honestly wasn't THAT bad and it was a learning experience for sure.
Good luck! What is your subject area?

NYC DOE interview TODAY - help!!!
On the UFT website you can also find the list of unionzed charter schools. I work for one, and we are in the same UFT as DOE teachers, have the same salary scale, the same pension, and the same health benefits. Since we are unionized we also follow the same school year and school day schedule as DOE schools.

Interesting, I wasn't aware of this.
