DVC Rental?
Anyone rent DVC points for vacations while Disney is closed? Are you having any issues getting refunds? We have a trip booked for this summer and I didn't take out the insurance and now I'm concerned that even if the park is opened its not going to be an optimal experience for what i'm paying....

Re: DVC Rental?
I know over on disboards there's a lot of discussion about this.
You will have to work with the rental company (if you went through one) or the owner directly (if you went that route). Unfortunately, due to the nature of DVC points, you really can't just cancel and get a refund.
No one could ever have predicted this and Disney won't get involved in a private transaction such as renting points from an owner.
As an owner, my first inclination if I had rented my points would be to issue a refund to the renter, BUT then I am out the points and the money (Disney is not refunding owners their points), so it's not such a clear cut answer. If my points were not going to expire, I would try to find an alternate date/resort for you.
If my points were going to expire, I don't know what I'd do. Most rental contracts are non-refundable, non-cancellable, so if the resort is open, I feel like you're getting what you paid for (even if it's not everything you wanted from your vacation). Your contract was for a room, not for park access.
Good luck!! I hope it all works out for you. I hope that the company or owner you worked with is able to accommodate you.

DVC Rental?
I just saw a post from someone in one of my DVC groups that they are out $6,000. The owner won't refund them. I think the #1 thing with renting points is get the insurance!

but would insurance cover it if the resorts are open but someone wanted to cancel? I don't know anything about the DVC rental insurance. I feel bad for everyone who rented or lost points during this whole thing. It's a mess.

I can say that I have a rental with the dvc rental store online, and i have "cancel for any reason" insurance. I can cancel 45 days out or more and get 100% refunded. The insurance was like $200

I use Insuremytrip for my trips (mostly cruises) often, and there are many different policy types that would cover this.
