Re: Vent: how’s your month going?
Well as if it wasn’t bad enough, I just found out my almost 16 yr old dog (my love) now has kidney disease on top of his heart condition. Changing his diet, and his heart meds and trying to keep him healthy and happy for as long as we can.
The hits keep coming

I am so so sorry. We have had several dogs, always a dog in the house, and it is so hard as they age. Just the fact that your love is 16 shows the care/attention/love you have provided.

I am so sorry. . I just went through this with my cat. It is manageable. Ask about starting fluids right away. It does help their quality of life.

He said normally that would be first thing they do but with his heart condition, fluids could kill him. So just the food change and hope.

So sorry. One of the hardest things in life is to watch a beloved pet age and become unwell. I hope that the meds and diet change do the trick so you can love him longer. xo
As for how the month is going - fast. It's going really fast! How is it basically mid-October already? I feel like there is so much to get done and the days are just whipping by. Need time to slow down just a bit.
Other than that, the month has been fine. Uneventful which I suppose is good. I started an online accredited French pastry course so that is taking up a lot of my time, I am really enjoying it so far and learning a lot. All is well with the kids in school thankfully, no COVID issues. We are all looking ahead to some Halloween fun in a few weeks.

Ah, yes, you’re right. Does he have congestive heart failure? Fluids can be done, but you can’t do them. The vet *could* do them, but it really needs to be monitored closely. At least that is how it works with cats.
I used this website as a resource for my cat. There is a dog section there.

I’m not sure of the similarities between dogs and cats, but it may help.

Re: Vent: how’s your month going?
September/October sucked… my son had to quarantine, had to install a new AC unit for the apartment in the new house ($$$), my dog is in heart failure and dying and work has been basically going like this:
So yea.. sorry for everyone who is sucking it up with me. Hang in there

He’s not technically in CHF yet. He has the highest grade murmur possible and his heart is extremely enlarged. So they are very careful with what they do with him anytime he needs medical attention. He has been on meds for his heart for almost 4 years and they found this kidney issue at a routine bloodwork and Urine.

It’s good they found it in the routine bloodwork. I found out too late because it didn’t show up in the routine bloodwork.
Are you going to do more testing? I think they usually do more testing.

They did a mini chem and made me come back for a full panel and urine. That’s when they told me we needed to change his diet and one of his heart meds. His annual is normally around his bday in February. So it’s 4 mo away. They didn’t mention if they need to see him before that yet. Im going to see the vet on Friday (for another reason) so I’ll bring it up.
