Re: 1 year bloodwork
My DD had her blood drawn from her arm and I also heard it's much better and less painful than a finger prick. You can request a pediatric person to draw blood. I always do!!!

Re: 1 year bloodwork
After reading all these posts I kinda wish my ped office did it via the arm bc the finger is horrific. Takes them for ever. Drop by drop and the whole time they scream and scream.

Re: 1 year bloodwork
DS has blood drawn from his arm for 1 and 2 years. I didn't really think anything of it. It was over and done with in a minute. DS cried but he was fine right afterwards. He'd have cried for a finger prick, too. And personally, I think there's a lot more squeezing when a finger prick is done to get enough blood out. The arm, to me, seems much easier.

Re: 1 year bloodwork
my ped only required a finger prick, i think i may have switched right then and there if they told me to get blood drawn from their arms, my kids have always been good about getting shots so its not the needle part it just seems excessive to me

Re: 1 year bloodwork
We took my DS to Lab Corp and Good Sam outpatient lab. Both times it was from the arm and both times he did great. If you go to the lab, they know what they are doing and it is so fast the kids don't even realize what is happening. I can assure you it was way more traumatic for us than him.
Honestly, as an adult, I find the finger prick hurts like hell and I would much rather them take blood from my arm.

1 year bloodwork
Thanks for shedding light on the finger prick vs in the arm and why they even need to do this bloodwork. It's very interesting to hear all the feedback and I appreciate it. We are taking her Friday, so hopefully it goes smooth!

1 year bloodwork
every pediatrician is different. the group i went to last year for my daughter took it from the finger...this group takes it from the arm. after seeing both - I think the arm is better actually. filling those little tubes from the finger took forever...it comes out quicker from the arm. if you go to a lab instead of a peds office, they do it from the arm too.

1 year bloodwork
My pediatrician did the finger prick.. They were quick and DD didn't even cry. She did give the woman a death stare- like why did you do that to me.. but she was fine. I was about to cry- but she didn't even flinch.

Re: 1 year bloodwork
At our 9 month visit our dr gave us the script to get the blood work done...part of it is state mandatory to check their lead levels. I'm petrified thinking about taking her in for this. Will be checking back if you could post an update!!!

Good luck! When I took my kids I always called ahead the lab to find out when they had someone on duty that specializes in pediatric blood draws. It really makes a difference. I was also told that if they don't get it right away, just leave and go to someone else because usually this means they are not good with taking blood from peds.
