I read the tips online without reading the book, but ds wakes up 4-5 times a night for his binky--does this address how to deal with the non-eating wakeups?
where online are the tips???

Re: 12 hours sleep by 12 weeks? anyone do this/read it?
I was lucky enough to get a reply from MrsPowers, who posted that she go this to work.
First bit of advice is to stretch daytime feedings 4 hours apart and to try to fit all his food in during the day.
I just ordered the book, I will definitely follow this. It seems intuitive to me. If baby is full why would he wake up to eat?

Also, once they are on the every 4 hour feeding schedule it helps with longer naps and longer stretches at night.

It didn't work for me. When DS was 12 weeks old, he could barely go 3 hours without eating. At 4 months, he finally started going 4 hours in between but it hasn't helped with STTN or with naps :(

Re: 12 hours sleep by 12 weeks? anyone do this/read it?
I am reading the book now, here are the steps.
Step 1: Feeding during the day: every four hours, four times a day, for twelve hours.
Step 2: Feeding During the night: Gradually eliminate all night feedings for twelve hours.
Step 3: Sleeping During the night: Sleeping or resting quietly in crib for twelve hours.
Step 4: Sleeping During the day: Sleeping or resting in crib for about one hour in the morning and about two hours in the afternoon.
I am going to try it. I will let you all know how it goes.
Also, my babysitter has 4 kids (a set of triplets and singleton) and she said she did something like this with her youngest (the singleton) because she had three 2 year olds to take care of and he was sleeping 12 hours and was her easiest baby and it all started with eating every 4 hours.

Im going to get this book too -- sounds great . . .
Sophia doesnt really nap -- it's hit or miss which throws off her sleep routine at night. We do CIO at night (not much anymore, shes good about going down when we put her down). Im wondering if we should start doing CIO for naps
Does the book address CIO at all?

Yes it addresses it
eta, quotes from the book: "sleeping is a learned skill" "there is not a lot of learning going on after five minutes of steady, continuous crying" and she presents a "limited crying solution"
There is a special section for older babies up to 18 months. She says same methods apply to older babies, just with some tweaking.
I just got this book, I love it. I read it to DS for a good hour and a half and he was smiling the whole time, then he pooped, got cleaned up, and fell asleep for his nap. So its already well worth it
and its gradual, nothing drastic, you don't just drop feedings and let the baby cry or anything like that

Also, I think she emphasizes that you don't do it all at once. You start for a few days just aiming for step 1. Once you get that down you can move to step 2 and so on.

I'm confused though..
if you want them to eat more during the day, why would you stretch out the feedings to 4 hours?
and HOW do you eliminate the night feedings? that's a big one for us!

I thought most babies STTN automatically around this time, is it even worth it to pick up this book?
I did not read this book, but I do not think it is the norm for babies to sleep through the night by 12 weeks. Mine didn't til he was a year, but I think 6 months-ish may be closer to "normal"

Re: 12 hours sleep by 12 weeks? anyone do this/read it?
I would think they would need more daytime sleep then that at 12 weeks?
I think most kids start to STTN at around 8-12 weeks regardless . Mine did at 6 weeks and the twins at 11 weeks, and I did nothing special.
Good luck though!!!! Once you start sleeping, everything changes!

not sure if this helps...but i do 4 hours b/w feedings during the day (if DD is hungry i split the bottle & give half at the 2 hr mark)...then for the last night feeding I give more than during the day.
