Re: I am starting Alli today
I'm starting tomorrow with dinner. It looks like all of us on this board that are taking it are starting close to the same time. Based on most of the initial reactions, I thought I was going to be the only one here taking it.

Re: For all starting Alli
I took my first pill with dinner.
Is everyone taking 3 a day, like they recommend? I was reading on their message boards if you eat a meal with no fat its not worth taking the pill. I usually have a very low fat breakfast (3 grams). I don't know if its worth the money to block less than 1 fat gram for breakfast, I should just have one fat gram less for lunch or dinner and spread my pills out for some extra days.

Eeek, do you have any idea how much fat you ate? I havent had any treatment effects, but when I'm at work I make sure to go at least 1x every hour just in case. And since I'm not taking a breakfast pill, I'm not at work for a long while with it in my system (I usually have lunch around 2PM, so I'm only here for 3 hours with it in me.)
Congrats on your loss! I havent gotten on the scale, either before or after. I have a general idea from when I went to the dr about a month ago.. but thats it. If I go on the scale I will get obessed with it.

Re: Official Alli Thread
So basically what this pill does is make it so that fat just passes through your system and is not absorbed by the body?
I had done herbal life quite a few years back and there was a fat absorbing pill that did just about the same as this is . . . . I remember those fun times after eating a high fat meal. Potty and I became best buddies

Yeah - it doesnt make all fat pass, supposedly just a portion of it. (I think I read 25%?) In order to not have 'treatment effects' you are supposed to stay under 15 grams of fat per meal. I'm glad I'm not one of the guinea pigs that was tasked to figure out how many grams per meal.

Re: Official Alli Thread
I do not need this product to lose weight, since I am currently maintaining my weight, but I would very much like to take it when consuming meals that are higher in fat only . . . . . not sure if this is a great move, but I have been reading of people using it for this purpose.

Re: Official Alli Thread
let me ask a DUMB question- but if you stay under 15 grams of fat a day- why do you need the pill?

see that is what is confusing me. Each meal should be under 15 grams of fat, which mine generally are. But if used when you know you will be consuming high fat meals, isn't it going to be more effective (even though side effects would be worse . . .)
This pill confuses me . . .

Re: Official Alli Thread
It is a weight loss pill that is meant to reduce fat absortion of food by 25%. You are supposed to eat a low fat diet to reduce the chance of treatment effects which can be bloating, gas, oily stools and leakage . . . This effects mostly occur only when your meal is too high in fat. It is supposed to increase weight loss by 50% than when just dieting alone . . . .

The pill blocks 25% of the fat you eat, whether above 15 grams or below 15 grams. By blocking fat, its blocking calories, therefore lowering the amount you are absorbing and making your weight loss faster/better. The 15 gram mark (which actually could go anywhere from 13 to 19 grams depending on the person) is just the guideline marker they give for people to take the pill without treatment effects.
The pill is not a quick fix. You need to follow a low calorie, low fat diet, so you don't you have treatment effects. But if you follow the plan and take the pill, you lose weight faster by 50 percent. (So instead of losing 10 pounds a month for example with diet just alone you lose 15 per month).
This pill is made for obese people - not for people that need to lose 5 or 10 pounds. It's an 'enhancement' to an existing weight loss program, not a solution in itself.
People will ask, is it worth it? Maybe, maybe not. I like the idea of speeding up my weight loss (who wouldn't?) and I like to have this give me more willpower. Because I KNOW if I eat bad food, I will get violently ill. The best part is that my husband knows it now too. He is a major part of my 'willpower' problem. He will always say "oh come on, one cookie won't kill you..." and it was hard dealing with the pressure. Now he knows that there is no way I could, so it's a non-issue.
