Take your shoes off before you come in my house

When friends stop by do you prefer they take their shoes off before coming in your house.

If it's snowing/raining out I *might* ask but only if it was family.

Otherwise I have wood floors so I don't really care that much.

Re: Take your shoes off before you come in my house

There was a very long thread on this a few months back. Hard to believe something like taking off shoes could cause drama.

But to answer the question, Id never ask. We are still renters and the carpet was here when we moved in. We asked our landlords to have it shampooed - they vacuumed. It looks worn and its permanently blech. So I couldnt care less what people do in here. Unless of course your feet stink from here to high heaven.

When people walk in and see beige carpets, they ask me what I prefer. I prefer it but I don't ask.

I wonder if this too will get over 100 responses.

I totally agree....there are things called vacuums and carpet cleaners made for just the reason if you get something on your carpets....

I would never ask. If they chose to take them off, fine. If they chose to leave them on, ok by me.

I don't ask, nor do I prefer they take their shoes off (unless their shoes are muddy for some reason...)

I actually honestly find it really strange when people I've invited over take their shoes off without me telling them to. However, it doesn't bother me. Whatever makes them most comfortable.

on the flip side- i feel weird asking to take my shoes off at someone else's house, and i feel like if i asked them- they'd give the response, "it's up to you," which continues the quandary and internal conflict- do i take them off, do i leave them on, is one more rude than the other. Heh.

I prefer that they leave their shoes on. I don't want to be embarrassed by their black socks when they leave.

Re: Take your shoes off before you come in my house

We had friends over this weekend and they didn't take their shoes off. We didn't care. We have hardwood floors and they weren't muddy or anything.

Plus, we rent. If we had pristine new carpet I would hope people would take their shoes off. I usually ask or follow what other people do when I'm at someones house.

Shoes off in our house.
My DH is borderline obsessive about clean floors. He makes everyone take off there shoes. I get yelled at all the time!

I'm not as strict, but mostly everyone who comes over knows the drill. There are a few who resist. My 90yo Grandmother doesn't and we wouldn't dare tell her to. His mother doesn't but that's just out of spite!

I've thought about having a basket of slippers at the door to make people more comfortable.

I do however take off my shoes in others homes esp. if they have carpet and also if they have kids.

I like people to feel comfortable in my home- so if they want to take their shoes off- then can and if they don't they can do that to

they only person that has to take their shoes off is DH- he tends to forget when they are wet and dirty!
